Can you just mount up a XE top on a ion body to get BOB? Picking up a Ion for occasional use for dirt cheap but its the original type with no BOB.

Not much experience with Ions, Last Marker was a Proto Rail and spyders before that.

No.
On the Ion XE the rear donut on the firing can was replaced with the BOB plug and the breech and can are one piece.Also the plastic body on the XE has an insert for the feedneck while the Gen 1 Ion has a threaded breech
You can find a few BOB bodies that work with the original Ion setup or get an XE conversion.
I'd recommend staying away from the Shocktech BOB bodies as they're prone to leaking

The only thing you will need is the rear banjo and a feedneck, everything else will be the same!

Ok I will prob just keep it without bob it's not like I am tearing it down at the field to re-grease it. I think he mentioned a fire bolt and looks like the Asa was replaced from pics. I am going to see it tomorrow. As long as it turns on I will buy it. It comes with a tank and 2 hoppers.

picked up the ion today got the ion with fire bolt( it's red) a halo hopper with duck tape battery door mod. A beat up smart parts egg hopper freak barrel with 2 inserts and a aluminum hp tank for $50. The gun shows signs of use but appears to be in working order I put a battery in it and turned off eyes it seems to shoot. Got to get some hater sauce tear it apart for a clean and lube. Will prob also order a set of orings too, if I get the ion kit will the bolt orings work with the fire bolt too?

Nice score for $50,the SS Freak is worth about that much
The standard oring kit will work with the Firebolt also
