Signing the lease on the studio space today, it's small at 745 sq feet, but it's a good start for me. Going in 50/50 with another local photog, she's about my age and works on The Framed Life with me, so I think it'll be a good business partnership.
1) The front room - This is going to be the room used for the shooting, against the far wall we're setting up backdrop stands with a white paper roll, going to ask the property manager about building a cyclorama wall further down the road. The walls are being painted N7 neutral grey, and if allowed, the ceiling will be black (though the ceilings are high so reflection isn't a huge concern)
On this other side of the front room the plan is to replace the drop down curtain roll with a black paper roll and use that for the black backdrop area, we're not 100% sure this will be possible since we haven't been able to take it apart yet, if not we'll just have to switch out the white for the black whenever we need to shoot it. As for the windows, they're going to be masked off with a frosted white vinyl with our two business logos that my design studio I work for is going to make for us, this will allow for privacy while keeping the big window look.
2) The Office - This is going to be our office room, it looks rather small at 24mm but it's big enough to fit 2 computer desks and chairs on either side very comfortably. This room is going to be colourful to contrast the black and grey of the studio, going light green and sky blue. Looking into getting a mural painted in as well, that or a giant sticker collage in a corner. I'm also going to hook up my spare tv on a wall mount and my xbox since I don't use either at home and I want some break-time entertainment. This room is also going to have a mirror and rolling clothing rack on the door side to double as a change room.
3) The Bathroom - As of right now this is the worst room in the place, as per our lease agreement the toilet is going to be replaced (along with some drywall patches and a complete replacement of the flooring in the entire place) and we're likely going to use the same light green for this room as we're using for the office. Going to have a bigger mirror, as well.
Only thing I don't have to show is the small hallway leading from the front room to the bathroom, right now it's full of old wooden standup shelves that will be replaced with some modern black wall-mount shelving and some black and white framed portraiture, also going to be the same grey as the studio.
Anyway, thought I'd share some before pictures, we hope to have this all completed by the end of July and I'll post up some progress photos along the way. Pretty exciting for me.
