Wedgits- Your opinion.

I was having a discussion on the field about Widgets and wanted to know some opinions. Shooting a cocker (not a palmers) I'm known for not paying attention to my barrel and rolling the balls out- I could fix this problem by boring tighter or by getting a barrel with widgets- Whats your opinion on the matter?

Wedgits work. End of story.
No swapping backs or inserts to match an average for your paint.

My advice. Get a .685 with wedgits. You're set.

Couldn't have been said any better

I shoot a .689 with standard wedgits no roll outs from 681 and up plus with with a .689 I never break even when I'm whoring on my auto trigger

Wedgits are solid tech and require no attention.
I have owned a variety of wedgited barrels and been pleased with them all.
Go with a .685 if you are ordering a Palmer's barrel.

Wedgits work; but hurt chrono consistency with my Blazer. I can live with it, but prefer seeing 278, 278, 279.

I much prefer a barrel kit.

Wedgits are the same as nail polish, which works as well as tape in the barrel. Only a properly-bored barrel seems to make any difference. A tighter bore is likely your best option if performance is truly what you're looking for. If you aren't willing to sacrifice the few seconds it takes to match your ammo to your barrel bore, then go ahead with one of these other options.

if you have ball sizer next time size every ball in one 500 round bag to prove my point i guarantee you that you will have size variance if you shoot rps evil you will have balls ranging from 682 to 691, DXS gold same issue this were wedgits come in hand just because you size 3 or 5 balls in your bag and think you good doesnt account for the other balls in your bag your gonna shoot you will overbore and underbore no matter if its high end or low end paint

i disagree with castro wedgits do the job and cost a fraction of a barrel kit

Fresh quality paint never fluctuates THAT much, but you're on the right track. Any fluctuation close to that large is the difference between the "seam" side of the ball and the rest of it.

Still, science is on my side. You're talking about match-boring your paint and barrel, which isn't really the currently accepted method. Underboring changes all of that, and has been proven to do so. I've regularly used a .679 bore for about the last year or so, and all the paint I've been using has been between sub-.679 and .684. I even used a .670 insert for about 2 months recently when the paint started to show light around it inside a .679.

If wedgits are what you decide to do, use nail polish or make a tape detent, because it will work just as well, without affecting accuracy. I've also personally tested this comparison. Wedgits don't create an actual seal around the ball, so it provides no advantage over the tape or polish methods, while none of the three methods provide nearly the increase in performance that proper underboring does.

Ultimately, if you're looking for the BEST performance from your gun, underboring IS the way to go, hands down.

They work, they usually stop rollouts like they are supposed to. But the main reason why I still have both bore sizes for my Blazer and Pyre is efficiency. .680 paint in a .690 barrel isn't really helping efficiency. Especially with a small hpa tank it makes a difference.

If we're talking strictly for Blazer or Pyre, I think I read a while ago that the smallest bore you can use is around .685. Because the lip of the bolt won't fit with a smaller bore barrel.

Again, thats IIRC.

I'm sure a chamfered bore would work just fine. Otherwise, Palmer could cut whatever barrel you want to accomodate this issue, if they're willing anymore.

Big fan of the wedgits. My wedgited PPS Brass shot better than my Race barrel and my CCM barrel kit and my freak and no worse than my selection of lapco one pieces.

The fact that it works with almost all paint makes it the best barrel out there. Maybe in a situation where the paint can't stand up to wedgits, it may not be ideal. Not sure.

If I had a cocker right now I would use a .687 lapco with wedgits and call it a day. Even a .689. I found consistency to be equal. It shouldnt be as efficient as an ideal fit in a perfect sized barrel but it should be as consistent.

I think they are a must have if you play at a FPO field and you shoot brass. Having barrels hammered however is a tad different though, because you have the option of a barrel kit.

I thought about the wedgits too but ended up getting the Python compression system. Going to try it out next week.

There are 3 benefits to a Wedgit'd barrel.

1. First off, they work! The ball starts in the same exact spot - crucial for closed bolt guns.
2. You only need one barrel to shoot most quality paint.
3. It's a Palmer barrel, and Custom made to your order - how cool is that?!

Stupid question: what exactly are wedgits?

I'm not sure they were around when I had BZ199...

I miss BZ199.

Basically three raised "dots" on the inner surface of the barrel, evenly spaced. They take the place of a barrel kit in that they will hold a ball securely in front of the bolt, without letting it roll out. They don't provide the performance of a barrel kit, and are a more expensive version of the "tape trick" or using fingernail polish to do the same thing.

I wish all barrels had wedgits. I love my .693 Lucky Un1tech because it shoots all paint GREAT and exceptional paint SUPER WELL and I wish it had wedgits simply to prevent roll-outs.

IMHO, paint to bore match is overblown. A crappy barrel or crappy paint or both with a good paint to barrel match is still going to shoot crappy. Give me super small Ultra Evil with an overbored excellent barrel any day of the week over a perfectly matched Thunderpig or something similar.
