^In loose theory it is ideal, most professional looking, and moving in the direction of a uniform league, similar to other sports of all levels. But for the first year or two should have some grace period in there. For the teams and players who do and do not have sponsorships. Big big budget up front for a league that is still not left the ground or proven itself. Time will tell I guess.

I was all on board with this until I registered and I got this little message:

Welcome to NPL

Congratulations, you are a registered member of this website.
To become an offical player you must complete the following requirements:
1. You must attend combine tryouts.
2. You must to be selected for a NPL team.

Yeah but no. I'm not playing anything if I can't bring my team.

I like this idea...just poorly done.

Unless the league is providing me with gear, don't tell me what I can and cannot wear (within reason obviously).

They should have 6 Regions, Northwest, Southwest, North Central, South Central, Southeast and Northeast. Pick a field in each region to host a few (2 or 3) prelim tournaments. Then take take number 1 and number 2 in overall score over those 2 prelim tournaments to East, West, and Central championship respectively. Then the top teams (there would be 3) move onto the championship. Let everyone play everyone once (or twice) and the winner is the national champion.

Just my idea.

Boom.

Had the same idea since the talks about the merger kicked up.

I understand having uniform jerseys, pants, etc. but shoes? Really? That's just being ridiculously picky.

I understand it in pro sports, even college sports...simply because that is what is given to them. For example, just because a football team uses Nike cleats doesn't mean each player thinks those cleats are the best, that is what is given to them. For teams that 99% of the time have to pay for everything...telling one player is has to buy the nicest, or the opposite and telling one player he has to get something cheaper isn't very fair.

looking at the rule book this is about as legitimate as it gets

I'd say if you want the sport of paintball to be recognized as a real sport then this is the way to go

though i do think the rules should be a little more lenient on the uniforms, maybe more leniency in the amateur league, or have a grace period

Im not trying to be a debbie downer, but Paintball has missed its chance to be a "real" sport. Back from 2004-2006 paintball saw its largest amount of participation and we didn't make it mainstream. Now, have half if not 2/3 less than we did then...we aren't going to make it with these participation numbers.

touche sir
but to that i say that participation numbers aren't everything, i think also a proper national format was/is needed as well as better marketability
and i see as a step in the right direction

You obviously have a very short memory then, this format has been tried before and failed miserably. As it stands, unless one of the big manufacturers gets on board I really foresee this format ending just as Moneyball did.

Where did you see a game played Frank? I thought you of all people would want to do touchdown dances in the end zone like when we won the first USPL tournament together. (Was that the right name?)

Maybe the video on the site? But I also know fields have been playing this lately too so they can get local players interested. I have personally tried the format at the Diamond Hill location, and know they have played it a few times in a practice type setting.

I agree...but I don't believe this is the "proper format." I mean college Division A has been doing something similar to this for a few years. With regional events...and CFOA did it with 3 man events. They had a few regional "prelim" events and then the top teams were invited to the Championship...they need to be doing it similar to that, just have 4 (maybe 5) regional prelim events, 2 or 3 area (West/Central/East) Semi Final events and then a 2 day championship event. In the prelims/semi-finals it gives teams that simply had a bad day a chance to come back. How many pro sports teams don't play another pro team in their league more than once a season.

you know there is a problem with the sport when people are getting worked up about the uniform appearance requirements.

With participation the way it is now wouldn't it be easier to move into and adopt a national type event like this. Yes a smaller pool of people means smaller turnout more then likely. But to me, and hopefully, the pool of people left have a more heavily invested interest in the sport then say someone who has no tourny desires and plays with a buddy once every other month when bored. Most of the ppl left remember moneyball, has heard of it atleast, and if the masses wants a league like this through tallying to the league and working with local fields can make it done. I think of this time for paintball and the economy as almost a small reset. Now the rebuilding can begin and through player input create what is best for paintball.

Then again more then likely pure pipe dreams all in my head.

Reading the Player Guide it sounds like Football + Paintball. Which is what Moneyball was back in 2005...
This league seems REALLY full of itself, and it's rules are more complicated than necessary....

The site, rules, etc. are pretty badly done so far, seems really sloppy.

Point is, though, that for paintball to become a real established thing in the sporting world, you need a league structure that has a game schedule and established teams rather than two separate leagues with all of the action being condensed into five events per league each season.

Paintball News Rules
  1. No Upping threads. If you have something to say, please do, but don't post in the thread just to take it to the top of the forum.
  2. Do not post "1st post", "1st", "First post" or anything similar (or with any other number) at any point in a thread, even if you post a comment too. It is really annoying and it will result in a ban.
