Exclamation need refs help for sticky in this section....please look inside

hello all

have been thinking about this since we started this section. i think it would be a valuable aide for both new refs and old ones that weren't exactly sure about them.

what i'm typing about is reffing hand signals used during games. i'd like to make a closed sticky with photographs of refs using these hand signals with maybe a short explanation of what the signal means below or above it.

the ultimate depiction in the photographs would be; someone in a ref vest or jersey giving the specific hand(s) signal. for more realism, adding this ref next to a bunker with a player next to them in whatever position they might be in when this call was made would be an ultimatum but not exactly necessary. do best with what you have available. of course to portray safety, we'd want masks on all photographed subjects. i would like full length shots(head to toe) of the ref and player(if included) but not necessarily a full shot of the bunker they're standing next to.

i'm not asking for photo's from just one person. even if you see a hand signal shot posted by another member, feel free to add another of the same signal to this thread and we'll post the best of the bunch in the sticky.

to keep loading time of the thread to a minimum, please try to keep the photo's in a relative 700x700 max format. post them here with a short explanation and i'll add them to the sticky when i make the final version. if you need software to size down pics to 700x700, you can get free software named Easy Thumbnails 3.0 (Freeware) at http://www.fookes.com/ but it would be a lot easier if you just took the pic in that dpi size.

i don't have any type of reward to give for your assistance but, i will guaranty that your photo will be in a closed sticky for as long as this section and PbN are on the web. i will also post the name of the person who provided the photograph(s). the only other reward i could offer is the fact that you will have helped thousands of refs per year that will dwell in this section now and in the future.

if there are any additional things i may have left out, i'm open to suggestions. any assistance you could provide in this quest would be greatly appreciated.

thanks........

Great idea,

However you must make clear if the signals are for the USA or Europe as the hand signals are very different.
In my experience the ones used in the US are much clearer and it would be for the benifit of paintball if they was adopted worldwide.

Russ
kind of at the mercy of the photographers. it will ultimately be a closed sticky with no interruptive posts so i'll have the option of adding separate sections for different applications if provided with them.

sweet! no big hurry, just a bit inquisitive. do what you can when you have the extra time. if you can, please have them in the relative 700x700 max format so they'll fit on the smaller viewing screens and keep loading time to a minimum since the thread will consist primarily of photographs. thanks

NPPL Official Rulebook 2009 Referee Edition

Quote:
11.06 Referee Hand Signals. Referee hand signals will be as follows:
Game Start

Quote:
(1) 10 Seconds to Game Start. The Head Ref will signal 10 seconds to Game
Start by raising his right hand.
2) Game Start. The Head Ref will signal the game start by dropping his right
hand.
The Ref here is raising both hands because he doesn't have to hold a stop watch. The Head Ref will be holding a stop watch and raising his right hand. All refs on the field will do this signal

Player Eliminated

Quote:
(3) Eliminated. Referee will signal when a player is eliminated by holding his
right hand on top of his head and pointing his left arm at the player who is
eliminated. The Referee will then pull the eliminated player’s armband. The
Referee cannot put a player back in after calling a player eliminated with a
hand signal.
Player Safe

Quote:
(4) Safe. Referee will signal safe by waving both hands in front of his body.
This “safe” signal indicates that a player is considered clean of a hit and is
still an active part of the game.
just like the one umpires use in baseball.

pursuant to section 11.05
Quote:
11.05 Paint Checks. Paint checks are performed by Referees for the purpose of determining if a paintball has broken on and marked a player. Paint checks are performed by a Referee when the Referee has observed a player taking shots, or when shots are directed into an area occupied by a player that the Referee cannot directly observe, when the physical location that a paintball may have broken on is not visible to the Referee, or when the Referee is directed
to do so by another Referee.
(1) Player Requested Paint Checks. Referees may, but are not obligated to,
perform a paint check after a player has requested one on another player.
(2) Flag Carriers. No flag carrier will ever be stopped for the purposes of
performing a paint check, unless requested by the flag carrier.
(3) Not Easily Verifiable. Players, who are hit in obvious locations, which are not
easily verifiable, such players may call for a paint check. If player request such a paint check, the referee must reply with hit or clean and do respective hand signals. (See rule 19.03)
1 for 1 (or 2, or 3)

Quote:
(5) One-for-One. Referee will call a player eliminated for a One-for-One using
the eliminated signal first followed by a double fist up and down movement
both arms in front of his body and tossing a red flag. Referee will then eliminate the player and
again signal a One-for-One. The double fist up and down movement may be
repeated as necessary for Two-for-One and Three-for-One eliminations.
Out of Bounds
(no Photo)
Quote:
(6)Out of Bounds. A referee will signal a player out of bounds with a swing of both arms towards the direction where the player is out of bounds.
Game Time

Quote:
(7)Flag Hang. Referee will signal a Flag hang by placing both arms over his/her
head and holding the left wrist with the right hand.
(8) Game End and Stoppages. The Head Ref will signal the game end or game
stop by waving both hands overhead so that the wrists cross

I forgot about out of bounds - it's a new rule, lol I'll try and get that one as well.

Thumbs up thanks FK......

those look great.....you're teh best!!!

yeah i noticed 6 was missing and maybe even 7 as well. just happy to get it this far. i like the way you coupled the text with the photos.

i noticed NPPL guidelines. might there be any possible deviations in other leagues besides overseas as mentioned above?

again, this is a great beginning i can't thank you enough for taking the time from your schedule for this. they're perfect! now all i need to do is find some time from mine to make the sticky.

the PSP rulebook (at least the one I have which is dated '05) does not have a specific section regarding Referee Hand Signals nor makes any reference at all to hand signals. It's pretty much the same for both American leagues... just don't have a reference from PSP to show that.
