If it weren't for a lot of other bands, the Misfits probably wouldn't exist either. I happen to like AFI a hell of a lot more than the Misfits (although I don't think they suck either), so I really could care less what you think. AFI's music has also evolved over the years, it doesn't all sound the same (pick up a Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes CD, then listen to the Art of Drowning or Black Sails in the Sunset, you'll notice a difference). So even if some was Misfits inspired, a lot of it also wasn't.

1%? Try 40%-50%. The CDs and EPs they've put out over the past 2 or 3 years have been pretty different than their earlier stuff. I wasn't pwned in any way, you were just pulling facts out of your ***. Wow, maybe 50% of their music sounds sorta' similar, they must totally be ripping off the Misfits!

AFI=My fav. band, seen em three times, I drove 8 hours to see them last time.
Fiend--
Please tell me....
Every AFI-dis-liker I've ever met says 'afi ripped off misfts' and I ask 'how?' but they give some lame *** excuse "umm....err....uhh... davey has a devillock" That's all Iv'e EVER heard. and I can't really see any similarity between afi and misfits except davey HAD a devillock for like a year or so.
I'd really like to hear a real reason for once.

I don't care enough anymore to actually argue about it, but if you were a real fan of either or both bands then you would actually LISTEN TO THE MOTHER FU*KING MUSIC and hear the similarity, there's more to a band than their haircuts, dorkbrain.

AOD is my favorite, but Black Sails comes close. All Hallows EP is also great, just a little short. I have a feeling the new one is going to be awesome too.

Someone asked who the greatest band ever was. It is Antiflag, and always will be antiflag unless they do something really stupid and start playing Emo or something.
to thafiend: "I dont care enough to argue" is just a fancy way fo saying "I was wrong, I am an ***, and I cant pull facts out of the air fast enough to answer your questions" so either admit your a complete moron or give us a straight answer how AFI copied misfits. I will admit some of their music sounds the same, but IMO AFI's best songs are the ones least like Misfits best songs.

umm.......... read the 10 posts in this thread in which I didn't say "I don't care enough to argue anymore", and you'll see the facts. Retard.

YEAH NO **** it's more than hair, I said that what all the stupid people that try to **** -talk afi say.
SERIOUSLY, I hear absolutley NO similarity in music.
Misfits, I hear-- fuzzy 4-chord old school rock, simple lyrics about the relativley same thing every song. Now that's okay, they have a theme, so it's okay to sing about the same thing almost every song. kinda.
Now, AFI, I hear completely different music on every cd (excluding answer that & very proud), lyrics that sound NOTHING like the 'fits, bridges, complex barr chords, and diversity.
AFI = Not the Misfits.

i see big similarities in some of the stuff, but not all....some of the lyrics are alike...but who cares, plenty of other bands have done the exact same thing...im sure bands all of you like have ripped off of another band...it all had to start somewhere and evolve from that...misfits started it, and afi became more creative and caused it to evolve....just because some of their work is like misfits doesn't mean you should dislike them, i think its better then misfits, with danzig, michael, or whoever else...and i think thats terrible now how doyle has kept it going, now that he is the only original member

Jerry is the only original member left, Doyle, his brother, joined in '80 or '81.
And oh yeah complex car chords my ***....... More complicated and creative lyrics????!!!!! Dude at that time, there had never been music like what the misfits made (in terms of lyrics), or I should probably say what Danzig wrote.... Let's see you try to invent a whole new type of punk, and write lyrics that would have been considered extremely obscene and disgusting even just 8 ago. Because I tell you what if Danzig went out making songs like that in 1968 he would have been thrown in jail.
AFI isn't nearly as creative as the misfits were, just face it.
The Mother In Me
Caught in a world that's plagued by something they called love. A paradigm of illness is the beast I have become. The sights that I have seen could nearly bring me to my knees. I've seen exactly what it is I never want to be, but I keep it deep inside myself. It's within me. Keep it deep within yourself and sink with me. Last night I had the misfortune to see it all first hand. "Evacuate the premises" was the innate first command. What drives the need for all of this? And will I ever understand? Has someone failed to tell me of this master plan? But I keep it deep inside myself. It's within me. Keep it deep within yourself and sink with me.
That was AFI
HALLOWEEN
---------
Bonfires burning bright
Pumpkin faces in the night
I remember Halloween
Dead cats hanging from poles
Little dead are out in droves
I remember Halloween
Brown leafed vertigo
Where skeletal life is known
I remember Halloween
This day anything goes
Burning bodies hanging from poles
I remember Halloween
Halloween
Candy apples and razor blades
Little dead are soon in graves
I remember Halloween
This day anything goes
Burning bodies hanging from poles
I remember
Halloween
That was the misfits.
I didn't put those on there to show any similarity, because AFI is past that stage now. In your opinion they weren't creative lyrics, but that's because you aren't thinking about the fact that they were written 26 years ago.

Alright, I'll be maturte and admit that you do have a good point about 'back then'.
When I was talking about AFI's lyrics being more complex, I was referring to their current, newer lyrics like those off Black Sails or Drowning.
I'll post some--
Now the World
Summer, I painted a scene that lit the stars for me. Said, "I can erase it for you dear." That summer created those words that came to life in three. They were denied by you. Summer I laid down below a glitter-adorned night and silently sparkled my own way. Summer I laid down by you and shared my frail light. You gave the dark to me. I looked inside to find the one I sent away. I nearly froze when I stepped inside to find the flowers turned to gray. I closed my eyes and kissed them one lest time. I wanted this excoriation. I thrive on this self mutilation. Summer, a morning so pale, alone when they found me. As I remained sleeping I heard them say, "This summer created a boy of abject misery." He was designed by you. So like a lost child I will hide, and like a lost lie I will find a way to return to the one who made me. Cover your eyes and we'll die together. Will you cry for me? Will you cry for me, or will you cry with me? I've been a lonely one. I've had this whole world drained from me. Am I the only one? I've had this world drained from me. Summer, I painted a scene that lit the stars for me. Said "I can erase it for you dear."
Reiver's Music
I gave up fighting. I've come to see these halos. Am I now worse off for this one night? All come enchanted, welcomed by the halos. All the while we know those enamored never miss us because we are all now in dying days, hear nothing and see no one. Nothing is all we own. I've taken to speaking words that only they know. How soon I did see, all here is unseen. I gave up trying. I've come to be these halos and welcome to our show those enamored who won't miss us because we are all now in dying days. With only echoes proving that I'm here with all the wraiths, for all these years and I have no desire to leave.
Clove Smoke Catharsis
Lean against the night and laugh as I try to scale the walls. Ingnored futility fills the air. You're only there to watch me fall...If only pure sweetness was offered, why's this bitter taste left in my mouth? If I could catch my breath just to exhale, I'd know that I held it in to long... From above comes a faint smile, a new vantage such a view. Familiarity know disowned. Just sit and stare as I walk away.
No Poetic Device
I've been dreaming. I was lucid. I was dreaming blood was seeping from my pores. Who'd believe that it was all my own decision? Cracked faces and medicated smiles. Set fire to my home before I turned and walked back in. For even needle open my chest and insert ten pins. I just anticipate what awaits when I awake... break. I die in my daydreams. The gardens have all been overgrown. I pushed my hand through the thorns to crush the final rose. A deadly secret only I suffer to know. I can't eradicate what awaits when I awake... break. I die in my day dreams.
The Despair Factor
Along the path where the stream is talking, I breathe the mist and continue walking. The wood it whispers in a language of it's own. As a sigh escaped my lips I feel the light caress of fingertips that steal away the breath and leave me on my own, waiting by the stairs. Waiting, I despair. Do I hear the hollow sound, footsteps resounding on this frozen ground, or the familiar disappointment of the echoes of my own? Somehow I ended up here in between, where there is always the comfort of knowing I'll never be seen when I fall. I wait for just one touch and I fall. Weightless, endless, faithless, I'll adore you. A single touch before I fade. Painless let me pass through.
Of Greetings and Goodbyes
Now ending discreetly, just like a hidden sin, as I go under please tuck me in. Make me invisible. This hidden explosion calls for a wandering cast with no direction. Enter all monsters let us twist another fairy tale. Go kill the lights, we'll glow till morning comes. I'll say goodnight and bow to everyone. Then we go under. The beauties are sleeping as fruit just rots away. Today go hungry. Let it begin. Make me invincible. There was a weeping I carried down today, a sigh worth keeping. Deep within divinity let's star another secret show. No need to worry it is just another monster. No need to fear here in the secret show. No need to worry I am just another monster. In you, I'll see me, in the secret show.
But I still don't see how AFI ripped off the 'fits
And no, I won't face it that AFI aren't as creative as the misfits, because IMO, AFI is just as creative as the misfits, just in different ways.
