Rechargeable battery mod discussion

Today while I was recharging some 9v batteries to use around the house and I thought about using one in my mini. Than I remembered that back in the day some guns had rechargeable batteries, and a small hole where you could plug a charger in and charge the battery while it was still in the gun. I'm sure you can guess where I am going with this. So, what do you all think about modifying the mini so that it could have a rechargeable battery, and a charging plug. Does anyone know if using a rechargeable battery could have any negative effects on the gun? Or could charging the battery while still it is still wired to the gun have some negative effects?

hes talking about moding it so it chrages while connected and having a conector installed like the led light

some rechargable batteries wont fit in the mini it says in the manual

I think it's a great idea.. but I wonder how well the board will handle it.
I would suggest asking Kee or whomever makes the optimus boards how to go about this without frying the board.
also if you have an aftermarket board I would call them.
be ready with specs of your intended charger, such as Mah ratings and what not. I wouldn't suggest using just any charger, on with auto shut off or maybe two stage with a trickle charger and a temp sensor.
batts get warm while they charge so that is also a concern.
(as is dust and debris getting in the charge port)

i dont see why not spyders to this day still have charger ports built in and they work good.

I use rechargables but you got to remember not to get raidoshack or energiser rechargables or most of the rechargables that you get at the store. I think most of them only put out 7.2v

Get like code 242 or other batterys intended for paintball guns that put out 9.6v like they should.

The power sockets to which you refer, similar to those used on the base of your Nokia have a switch built in, so when the jack is connected power is disconnected from the output to the board. Well, they can have, so make sure thats the type you buy.

It seems like a bad idea to me anyway. dirt ingress, warrantee issues etc.
If its a case of not wanting to have to go find an allen each time, i have a tip.
A PC Case Thumb screw is the same thread as the cover plate screw. Take one outta your case now and try it.. So i have a tool-less removal of my battery cover.

Can someone put this in the stickies?

I use a rechargable battery, Radioshack 9V, you just have to apply some pressure to the foregrip frame depending on which size rechargeable battery.

I don't think he was talking about conventional 9v style batts guys - I think the point was a rechargable batterypack that could be left alone, and you simply plug in the charging adapter ala the Angel

and yea 9.6v ftw as far as rechargable 9vs go... use 'em in all my markers and loaders

yeah i think thats what he means, but batteries get hot, and you want it inside your gun while charging?

this should go in voided warranty along with max's baked markers lol

Valid concern, but they only get hot if charged very fast or once fully charged. a good spyder style 3hr auto trickle charger would see little heat produced.

off topic, but how long do rechargable batteries last, not as run time, but how long could i keep recharging it over and over. Years? MonthS?

2 years ish, before you notice them go poo. Most claim 500 - 1000 charging cycles, but that is under optimim conditions, safe full discharge and a gentle intelligent charge each time.

This is a terrific idea. I had the exact same thumbscrew on a case and it fits perfectly.

Excellent Idea! I have done this myself. At most hardware stores you can purchase 6-32 aluminum screen door thumbscrews. They are clear anodized, and the head is smaller than the one you have pictured. I purchased mine at "True Value" in the small hardware aisle.

It might have already been discussed, but like some said on the old spyders you plug the charger into the actual board. Would'nt you have to have a board that incorporates this feature? I would like to see someone pull this off.

I have put some serious thought into this idea and while attaching it directly to the board would be the best case scenario I have come up with a more plausible solution. The only space available inside the foregrip is beneath the battery so I am pondering attaching everything to the bottom of a rechargeable 9v, and than simply splicing the wires into a new wiring harness that could plug directly into the board like the existing one does.
