invert mini or my struggle

this is where the mini is currently set; input psi is 180, dwell set to 8ms, back cap 1.25 turns out with a .684 bore and a pretty durable house paint (meaning when you throw it at the ground it bounces) pretty consistent in the fps all with in +/- 5 of the previous shot in the 280s.
if i adjust the input psi any lower than 180ish the fps drops to around 200 - 240 and no matter how far out the back cap turns it won't increase.

any ideas?

with the stock bolt i couldn't get it shooting higher than 250 fps no matter what i tried (i had initially thought maker had a boss, bought it used, i was wrong. we'll not get into how i made that mistake)

The oil should lube the reg piston enough to stop it from sticking.
I am kinda new to the sport and have just gotten an Axe. I have a Violent Series PB Oil on its way. Will this be ok for my ASA?

Also, what grease will you guys recommend? I've read some good reviews about Hater Sauce and Virtue SynSpeed V6 for the Axe...

What bolt do yo have now?

I would take everything apart and make sure the bolt isn't way too tight on the guide or way too loose letting all the air by. Your back cap could maybe be a little further out as well.

What I do is take the gun the way you have it, keep backing that back cap out until your FPS stops decreasing, then lower dwell until it starts decreasing and go back up a click or two. You should then be able to lower your OP a little bit.

Mine is shooting great at Drew Templeton's setup from Infamous.

Infamous bolt, short spring, 3.0 Dwell, 1.5 turns out on velocity cap, ASA pressure 137ish (drew's is at 122 but my reg hasnt broken in yet) and I am shooting at 278-282 consistantly. Played this way thursday night, gun was crazy quiet put about 700 shots thru it with no breaks at all. Bore matched the paint with the FREAK inserts and Deadlywind Barrel. Ended up with a .687 size. Love the Axe!!

I'd like to know why so many are dropping their dwell?

In any gun I've ever shot, increasing dwell made it gentler on paint, while decreasing efficiency..... and vice versa.

So, my thinking is, that while the gun may "feel" softer in the setup many recommend (with the lower dwell), it is actually harder on paint.

Why not run the setup suggested, but instead increase dwell?

Feel free to set me straight, if the Axe is different, and decreasing the dwell actually makes it softer on paint (which frankly would surprise me, and I'd like to understand why).

I have the same mentality, which is why I tuned by raising both my dwell on the board and back cap out until I stopped seeing an increase in FPS then adjusted pressure from there to set velocity. I'm very happy with how it shoots now.

So, can anyone explain why lower dwell is a good idea?

I think I'll try this. If I run into any problems it will probably be my O-ring setup on my bolt guide

+1 making this a sticky. Great post indeed, Thanks! I'm running a stock axe,
as I tap my fingers, watching this shipping tracker for a lurker bolt and lube.
Can't wait!!

My Axe comes in a few days and after i play with it for a month or 2 i want to get the lurker bolt but I am worried ill mess her up in the tuning dept. Is there some baby steps i should take first? I don't full understand dwell and other adjustment/settings facters

Any help would be really appreciated ...

I have owned three of these guns (Axe) and my new 2012 is running at 100 psi at the stock dwell, w/e that is.
Stock internals and cp 682 barrel 280ish over the chrono and has been this way every weekend.
The owner of Classic paintball said it should not work, but this thing shoots amazing.

^^ Wow, that is weird. Mine starts cycling erratically if i drop it below around 110 PSI. Your Axe must shoot really really smooth.

*is jealous.

that's super low...i'd say the gauge is out a bit. these mini gauges can easily be out 10-20psi...so one guy might say his gun is shooting 120psi and another shoots 140psi with the same settings, then they switch gauges and like magic they changed 20 psi with the gauge swap.
