I couldn't tell you. I borrowed those from my school.

I built the reflector out of coat hangers, foil and tape which I used for the indoor shot. The other light had regular white paper over it, because they were both far too bright for the circumstances.

However, when they were outside competing with the sunlight i could have even used something stronger.

Justin, I liked it. Yeah, some of those punches looked pulled, but the editing and blood, lighting... all pretty impressive man.

Would you be interested in doing some PA work?

Absolutely. I've been looking around for that. If transportation and my schedule allows, I'm there. Just shoot me a pm.

I'm scripting an assignment for school.

Liz: Oh, right. So you send the occasional email whenever you get around to it, and that’s what you call supporting your wife?
Shaun: But-
Liz: But whatever happened to driving me to that interview while you’ve got the car all day?
Shaun: That was in the middle of the day! I couldn’t get work off…
Liz: Interrupting him. Or even asking your own boss about getting me a job at your company?
Shaun: I haven’t had the time! Look, I’ll do it tomorrow. I promise.
Liz: Sounding somewhat distant. It’s not enough, Shaun…

I'm referencing a certain movie as often as I can for the hell of it. Props to whoever can figure out which one.
(Hint: It's blatantly obvious)

Right. Except in this, Liz is being played by a cantaloupe.

I really liked your video brah. The lighting was really well done as was the foley work and editing. My only qualm with it is, like others have said, the weak *** punches coming from the loser, lol. Otherwise, great job. I wish you lived close by because I'd love to work on stuff with you (I hope that didn't come off too homoerotic/creepy). Keep up the good work .

Orbital why do you taunt me with Lesbian Orgy's?

Anyone know of a non-staining blood mixture?

Thanks orbital.

I can't recommend anything that doesn't stain (and I'm not sure anything exists), but here's a mixture I improvised for that fight scene that worked decently, in approximate order of concentration
Corn syrup, water, chocolate syrup, milk, red food colouring. Some blue would have helped. I also threw in molasses and green sprinkles in a desperate attempt to make it darker before I thought of chocolate syrup. Both the guys who had to put it in their mouths said it tasted like funky chocolate milk.

If the actors aren't putting it in their mouths then add liquid soap to the mix.
Seems to help a bit, but there's some materials that just always end up staining.
I'd also remind everyone (even if they are just going to stand around and watch) to never wear their
"good" clothes if they can't afford to lose them. You'd be amazed at how many out of control blood sprays I've encountered.

Couple snaps:

Prepping "Wally" the dummy.

After an ax went through Wally's chest.

yep, he's dead...

And this is a bum w/ his head bashed in.
Cops stopped me for this shenanigan, but I still got it off.

Police halted production 3 times during a week and a half shoot.
Ah, the life of a renegade filmmaker (aka, too poor for city permits, ha).

That looks terribly convincing. Did you do it yourself, or hire a makeup artist? What did you use for the chunks of flesh?

I did most of the effects myself, although I did have help from a few local f/x artist willing to work on the cheap.
The flesh/insides is a mixture of stewed tomatoes and pieces of ripped up bread dipped in a basic fake blood recipe.
Those ingredients might sound silly but they produced what I think are good results, considering the resources I had access to.

Starting to shoot a new short today for school. Aside from having a premise that's stupid as **** (I think I thought of it while drunk) I'm hoping it'll be pretty watchable.

I think there's about a foot out there, but that didn't start until after we were finished shooting fortunately enough.

How do you shoot an indoor winter day scene when it's dark out?

2 half CTBs on a 1k redhead, with some tape between C-stands to break up the light.
