London Riots - what the heck?

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/08...est=latestnews

"Violence and looting raged across London and spread to three other major British cities on Tuesday, as authorities struggled to contain the country's most serious unrest since race riots set the capital ablaze in the 1980s.

In London, a third straight night of disorder saw buildings, vehicles and garbage dumps set alight, stores looted and police officers pelted with bottles and fireworks, as groups of young people rampaged through neighborhoods. It was an unwelcome reminder of London's volatility for leaders organizing the 2012 Summer Olympics in less than a year."

Seriously, I don't get it. One guy is killed in a disputed claim, and England, a reasonably civilized country, goes ape****? I wasn't surprised when France did this, but I am moreso that England has. I can't recall any riots this widespread across major cities in the United States like we are seeing in England.

Also:
"As the unrest spread, some pointed to rising social tensions in Britain as the government slashes 80 billion pounds ($130 billion) from public spending by 2015 to reduce the huge deficit, swollen after the country spent billions bailing out its foundering banks."

Are they suffering from worse financial woes than we are?

The British govt and people should wipe them out. NO Quarter! These "rioters" are nothing more than savages and should be treated like animals. If the UK didn't have such restrictive gun laws the Law abiding citizens would be able to defend themselves and their property

Eh, depends on who you talk to. Cultures are all different. It is useless to discuss these threads until maybe a month or two later

"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" -Thomas Jefferson

Wow it's crazy how America differs from other countries, people get shot and killed by cops all the time some mentally-ill homeless man was just beaten to-death by cops and people just watched. Not that i'm into going around and just burning **** and stealing but looking at the bigger picture this makes their government notice their people. If the people really don't like a new law or something it seems like London citizens will make sure to show their government just how they feel!

What is it when citizens are afraid of other citizens? Anarchy?

Cool photos though. And I have heard London calling about 50 more times because of it.

I think I like it.

Apparently, years of socialist policies have warped the youth in english to the point where they believe they are entitled to money. The second they start to realize that its unsustainable and the free ride is coming to an end, they also feel like they have the right to destroy other peoples things and steal what they want "to make a statement".

"Damn the bourgeoisie."

Anyone recall anything this bad in the United States? (some minor protests in Philly last night I see) I cannot at the moment. Especially over such a nonsensical issue IMO. Nice pics Barrager, notably the last one.

Something I heard - in England, if someone is breaking into your home, you CAN be arrested for stopping them. England is big on surveillance, and they may allow/use these riots as reasoning to increase their need for cameras on streets and to lockdown the people. This could indirectly be used to have more reason to lock down on all citizens - including radical muslims. Perhaps England can use these riots to their advantage...

My manly desires would be that they carried it into the street because the owner double spot parked it like a douche bag.
