buying a car off of craigslist

I've recently been looking at cars on craigslist and although there are some deals I have some concerns because it isn't exactly a reputable place to do business. Anyone have any advice on doing business through craigslist? Thanks

Just go buy a car from a dealership. At least that way you're getting ripped off.

What do you want to know about it that Mr. Google wouldn't answer in 10 minutes?

It's a free website used by many people (probably the most used in Canada/U.S.) for buying/selling anything and everything, personals, job ads, etc. It isn't so much a place to do business but a connection. Just like Facebook might not be a good website where you want to spend your time, but it's really good for getting a hold of people. But I digress...I've bought 2 cars off craigslist so far, sold tons of pb stuff, skateboard ****, etc.

Look up the car(s) you're interested in, e-mail/call/text the seller(s) of ones that look to be a good buy, meet up, check out the car, bring someone with you who knows their stuff if you don't, etc. Test drive them, check everything out, and if it seems like the right one for your next car, talk dollars with the seller and see how she goes.

That's generally how it's done. You meet all sorts of people just remember that. There are lots of really nice cars sold through craigslist, lots of average ones, some not so great. Just fan through them and go check out the cars that seem right.

As a Japanese tuner enthusiast with interest in a few Euro's (M3's, old Corrado's, you get the picture) this is probably how I'll purchase most cars I'll ever own. By confining yourself to dealerships you're looking at a very limited market of cars, that are usually overpriced. I don't even bother with dealers too much since most of the cars I like aren't made anymore, and the few that are made currently which I like are pretty pricey.

No, it means he has a penchant for the actual tuners. Probably prefers the Japanese because they're smaller and easy to dominate
