Hello all I recently traded for a nice cyborg with a powder coat. Is it possible and are there service a that can remove the powder coat and uncover the marker's original finish? The powder coat is in decent shape and I actually kinda like the colors... Just wondering about the possibility I have heard powder coat 'destroys the value' of markers. Thanks for looking.

It depends on what kind of powdercoat it is. I have used everything from paint stripper (the aerosol kind as harsh as you can find) to MEK. MEK takes a bit though...overnight to a few days and the part must be fully submerged it in.

What precautions do I need to take and what should I be wary of. I am trying to take the marker down to the original coat NOT RAW. How will it look after its done and does anyone have any experience trying this?

Wear some thick gloves. Wear a mask.....I don't do either, but its a good idea if you feel the need to protect your self from discomfort. Air craft paint stripper burns like hell I will say that.

Neither of these chemicals will do any damage to the anodizing.

That's good advice. I have also used regular old paint stripper on Tippmann 98 bodies. It softens the coating and can then be scraped off with a hard plastic scraper. This probably isn't the ideal approach if you're trying to save the original finish.
Be warned, they may have powder coated it to cover up excessive wear. Furthermore, they may have sanded the body with the goal of better adhesion.

I just don't know why anyone would waist the time/money powder coating over a good anodized finish.

Yeah that's the real issue is what may have been done before the powder coat was applied

Definitely recommend a good set of gloves, but not necessary if you don't mind the chance of having hairless hands/wrists.

Not quite sure what stripper I've used (I'd have to check), but it's a mildly thick gel. Eats paint and bubbles it right off. Easily wipes on/off with a rag.

In some circles does powder coat really ruin the value of a marker? I guess this isn't a question for this forum but I wonder if its really worth doing or if it would sell better with the powder coat. Not that I'm looking to flip the marker or anything.

Will powder coat really ruin the value of the marker? I understand some people want the original coat and whatnot but it has to Appel to some buyers. Idk if anyone has had any experience selling powder coated markers vs stock finishes. Thanks for all the input so far!
