I need some help with this.
I would really love some help with this. Im posting this here instead of TTMA because maybe i can get some input from you guys. IF we can, please keep this civil. I hope i dont get infracted for this, but chances are I will. If so, its one taken for the team.
This is really getting out of hand and I feel that PbN is on a downward spiral. I know most of you mods dont care as you have shown as you continue to drive people away from this site that you treat like God. The rules keep getting stricter and stricter. Heaven forbid we talk about movies that we have on our harddrives that we rip our selves. Heaven forbid we talk about a 1080p movie we just watched. Heaven forbid we call someone a douche bag, ****, dick, ****, whore, ******, *****, dike, homo, meat gazer, what ever. Yeah, i understand that the people that are advertising on your site dont want that kind of stuff or what ever, but come on. Isnt that pushing it a little bit? What do you do with your friends when you are around and about? Youre not all proper with them are you? Negative on that one, sir. You cut up and throw a little sarcasm around. Thats basically what we do in the GDT. Its (was) basically our let loose thread. But now its (was) our " Get Dictated Thread." Alot of the bannings/infractions have been pointless. Stuff that you couldve let slide, but it seems like someone has (in the nicest way) their panties in a wad or is taking their anger out on our GDT. (yes i do realize ours isnt the only one thats going through the same thing). Ive seen multiple threads get closed for stupid reasons. Really stupid reasons. I mean really? A 6 month probation from the GDT? Is that necessary? I really dont think so, but if it floats someones boat and toots someone elses horn, then i guess its okay. Just like Brandon (Supra_MKIII) I too have lost all interest in buying ASM ever again. ITs not worth it if we just keep getting infractions/banned for senseless stuff. Is this site supposed to be an all professional site or something? I swear, every time im making a post, it feels like im being watched by General Notran A. Schwartz him self. "Oh ****, wonder if hes gonna give me an article 92 (infraction) for that one.
FOr example. Was an infraction for what Not JCdenton69 posted really necessary? Even if the guy did make a little typo, it was just a little added humor. Are we not allowed to laugh? Is this a srs bsns internet forum where everyone is a professional? If thats what you are striving for, you shouldve started with that in the beginning.I think anyone that noticed it wouldve done that. It wouldve made him ask "WTF?! Oh, i see now" and edit his post or what ever.
As i see if now, PbN is slowly losing money and has been since the emplementation of the infraction system. I dont see it getting any better unless the mods let up a bit. They just keep closing in, faster and faster.
Look at this:
Quote:
Posts shall not contain (or have direct links to) any content deemed inappropriate by PbNation LLC at its sole discretion, which includes but is not limited to the following: content promoting the use of alcohol, tobacco or illegal substances; sex, pornography or adult-oriented content; violence, expletives or inappropriate language; content promoting illegal activity such as copyright infringement, racism, hate, mail fraud, spam, pyramid schemes, investment opportunities or other advice not permitted under applicable law; content that is libelous, defamatory, contrary to public policy or otherwise unlawful.
|
This was taken from a thread in TTMA. If this is all true, and who evers rules those are for advertising whether it be google or yahoo, why dont you not allow the discussion/mentioning of smoking tabaco and/or hooka, grafiti, gambling, sex, condoms, sex toys, dildos, vibrators, strap ons, butt plugs. Hell, why not ban the discussion of some music, because all alot of it talks about is sex, drugs, murder, making money ilegally etc. Is that how far its gonna be taken? It seems like it.
I along with many other members have decreased or even ceased their post count. Im very close to ceasing my posting all together. This stuff is just getting out of control. Its not that we are acting any different, its just that the rules keep getting more and more dificult and it seems to be that you guys have run out of reasons to be able to infract people so you have to stretch the meaning. That is all.
Tl:dr, i dont care.

What changed to make the GDT such a heavily policed thread? I have been posting in the GDT for a long time and we have always been cool with how things are in there. I understand that some of what goes on in there is against the rules, and there were infractions and bannings that did occur. That's fine, but why is it that, as of a couple months ago, I can't call someone any elementary school name without getting my dick stepped on by some mod who has no context? What is the real reason behind this newfound incredible overmoderation of the GDT? I have not been able to get a straight answer to this question.
I can pretty much guarantee that this will get deleted without response.

I think the reason behind the over moderation that you talk about is because of Kevin and Jerry and the constant *****ing between the regulars that constantly got reported. I dont know.

If I recall correctly, Kevin just wanted the pictures taken down. They went well and beyond that.
Why use a scalpel when you can use a hammer?

Meh, it's never going to be like 07-08 ever again; too policed and no one can ever have a good laugh without being infracted because they waited to long to swing down the hammer.
I'm heading back to PoS.

I will leave this open as long as it stays legit and on-topic.
My theory behind the downward spiral in the GDT has nothing to do with Jerry or Kevin. I've told you guys several times about the problem in the GDT.
You've all taken issue with my moderating, when in reality very, very rarely have I infracted anyone for anything other than blatant drug discussion, etc. There is a lot of activity on the site that does go largely unnoticed, and the GDT was that way for a long time. It was borderline infraction worthy, but when moderating with discretion, a lot of it was left alone and it stayed fine.
Fast forward a few months and we get to where Drunk decides to post numerous references to marijuana and others start calling for more moderation in the GDT. We get through the MDT crap and finally get back on track, but yet some still report more and call for more moderation. Yet, when we moderate more, we catch a TON of flack for it.
I've told you guys before: you made this bed, now you lie in it. You have numerous megas watching you as well as the normal mod staff and FC's. Everything was cool until YOU guys decided to break rules and complain. All we have done is enforce the rules that have always been there. I think we can all agree some of the moderating has been a bit excessive lately, but can we not also agree that you guys have purposely tried pushing us mods to the brink?
I see the only good ending to this being you guys cleaning your act up. Stop breaking rules and stop bad mouthing the mods and the site. If you don't like the site or the way it's ran, I can assure you there are many other people who will gladly stick around to ensure PbN remains a place for everyone to enjoy. I have enjoyed the GDT for well over 4 years now, and I do not want to see it end this way. But I have had it, as has AJ, as has Benji and everyone else. Heck, you guys have even caught the eye of Ed, which definitely isn't for good reason.
Your fate is in your hands.
I feel like a broken record.

If they're going to assume that Kev and Jerry are the problem, all they have to do is keep them out of the GDT. OH WAIT LOL
If the problem children are out of the picture, why would you increase supervision of the GDT? If it's for the sole purpose of making sure they don't come back, why are the rest of us getting into trouble so much?

I think you should just ban the people who continuously break the rules.

By the increasingly draconian definition of rule breaking, ST:T would get a new set of regulars.

Despite what you guys think, we (or I at least) am not here to make your lives miserable. I want you to take a look at something:
My Email:
That is 100 reported posts in a month and that is not even all of them as I did not move them into the GDT folder every time.
A GDT is a general DISCUSSION thread. Recently, it turned into a general TROLLING thread. That unfortunately resulted in an excessively long probation for two certain users. You guys act like 8th graders sometimes with the way you act. You bicker like you are married couples.
If you can all get along and behave, we have no problems. When I get at least 100 reported posts FROM A SINGLE THREAD, that is not going well. You guys constantly get off topic and it eventually ends with someone insulting someone, then 3 more people join in and 14 posts end up getting reported.
I am all for having a GDT. I like you guys and your wit (well, some of your wit). But what I imagine a GDT is and what the ST:T GDT was are two totally different things.
Now I am not the one who closed it and had no say in it. So there reasons may be different.

I agree we have been told several times, but why cant you be more strict on the bannings. For example, longer bans, or hell, even perm bans. Infractions are really nothing but a slap on the wrist for most people. Thats why the stuff keeps happening, IMHO.
You've all taken issue with my moderating, when in reality very, very rarely have I infracted anyone for anything other than blatant drug discussion, etc. There is a lot of activity on the site that does go largely unnoticed, and the GDT was that way for a long time. I dont see why people continue to blame you. When you say its not you, i believe you after some of the talks me and you have had on a more personal level. You arent the type of guy to be a real stickler about infractions and bans. Definitely not. Youre like the cop that doesnt want to pull someone over for speeding. You stop them every once in a while and give them a warning. Not complaining, just saying bro

I guess when we call for more moderation, we dont expect to get infracted and/or banned for some of the things that we do. We just expect for the big name stuff to be taken care of like drug discussion and so on. Most of us werent expecting all what seemed to be the senseless bannings and infractions.

October 6th was the only day with duplicate reports, that seems reasonable.

Notice that all the titles have numbers by them? That is how many posts per day I got. On OCT 6 I must have deleted the one thread so it created another.

I think its funny how I am still getting some of the blame when I haven't posted in the gdt for over a month now.
But anyway, the problem comes because the mods feel this is the one forum where they can go with double standards, TI himself said this is PBNs agreement with the advertisers:
|
Note how everything mentioned there is discussed on this forum? Yet we are the only forum that feels the brunt of it?
I for one am going to report all the threads that break that agreement, with a link to TIs post. I am also keeping my thread in ttma going, Sure they can say wait 3 days to post in it but I will wait those 3 days then I will wait 3 more days.
This blatant discrimination has to stop, I don't care if I am not allowed to post in the gdt now, **** it, I will be back in there in 5 months.

We're discussing a solution to the problem that will hopefully end up making everyone happy. I ask you guys to be patient and CIVIL as we try to figure it all out.
I also ask you to consider that having a GDT is not a right, and should not be abused. I think you all know I'd like to have a GDT just as much as the next person. But this stuff has to calm down. We have tried to crack down on the problematic users, but you guys have to assist by not playing into their games. Report them, heck even PM me, and we will take care of it. But we have to stop this "snowball effect" of a problem user causing trouble in the forum.
I'm also open to suggestions from you guys. Let's make this work. Let's put this to bed and stop having to worry so much so that we can get back to enjoying this forum.
