The Pittsburgh Pistol - Metadyne Thumper

Here she is, a rear pump 45 style pistol I bought from Squidvision. It has several setups and barrels I'll play with it. I play it 45 pistol since pumping a thumper is like cocking a hammer on the pistol. I get 25 to 30 shots a 12 gram cylinder. I target shoot 20 yard, 30 yard, and 40 yard shots in my back yard into the woods.

[IMG][/IMG]

When I play outlaw ball, I play one hopper with about ten 12 gram cartridges and change cartridges on the fly while not carrying more than a pod of additional paint. It's only $8 for 15 cartridges so I feel I pay under $20 for a day of outlaw ball with this setup and stay light.

When when I play a game that's more speed and requires 100+ shots a game, I play a pre filled JT 90 gram CO2 cylinder with a primo Proto hopper.

I shoot I J&J Ceramic 14", Lurker 14" .684 barrel, and Deadly Winds Fiber 14".

Who else plays a thumper?

Changing over from the hopper to the stock feed neck I lost a top attachment screw. Does anyone know if they make a Thumper parts kit and o-ring kit?

I'd like to have everything to make this go should it break or need adjusted.

Also with the 12 gram, I can only get low 250's FPS. Will a Larger 90 gram CO2 single use canister or 13 ci air tank help?

For parts contact Metadyne. To get it to shoot higher I'd ask them as I'm not sure if you can swap springs on one of these.

I live near Urban Assault but have played Steeltown and Crazy Dave's in the winter. I'm new to pump and the thumper isn't your typical pump. I like Woodsball and play pump on 12 gram in the woods. For speedball I play an electric.

I'm transitioning from speedball mentality and play stock class pump. I do play open class with a gravity fed hopper on 90 gram for fun. I played this Castle Nights at I.O.N. this last weekend as a big pistol. I do like this way to play and it conserves paint. I have played inflatables, woodsball, and a scenario game with it. It does jam with a gravity fed hopper unless you hold it gangster.

I have a crazy work schedule and a family so I play once or twice a month tops. I'm on here a couple times a week as its a homepage on one of my laptops.

The UWL is coming to Pittsburgh. I'd like to check that out. I also played with a larger club scenario groups out of I.U.P. and have met some people from the Pittsburgh Zombies and other players in local teams. August 4th will be the next time i play.

From MCB...

Quote:
Okay I have a question before I place the order; I've got a supplier lined up w/ a quote for the dozen or so metric sizes I intend to start stocking in Buna-70. My question for you all is, do you see any benifit to having either the 1x4mm or 1x15mm orings in Buna-90? If not, I can supply the following 2x kits for the Thumper:

Thumper Rebuild Kit #1 - all Buna-70:
006: 5x ($0.40)
010: 2x ($0.16)
012: 1x ($0.08)
015: 1x ($0.10)
016: 1x ($0.10)
021: 1x ($0.10)
109: 1x ($0.12)
112: 1x ($0.12)
1x4: 3x ($0.45)
1x15: 2x ($0.36)
Kit Price: $1.99ea

Thumper Rebuild Kit #2
006 (Buna 90): 5x ($0.70)
010 (Buna 90): 2x ($0.28)
012 (Buna 90): 1x ($0.14)
015 (Buna 90): 1x ($0.14)
016 (Buna 90): 1x ($0.14)
021 (Buna 90): 1x ($0.14)
109 (Buna 90): 1x ($0.14)
112 (Buna 90): 1x ($0.14)
1x4 (Buna 70): 3x ($0.45)
1x15 (Buna 70): 2x ($0.36)
Kit Price: $2.63ea

NOTE: these prices are based on my current prices for standard sizes and the unit prices that I will be listing the metric sizes for. Shipping will remain the same no matter how many rebuilds you purchase, and will be $2.46 shipped w/in the US and $3.51 to Canada.

I will start taking a "pre-order" of sorts (ie: a list of purchasers and qty of kits via a post in this thread), once I have the metric sizes on order, but will not collect any $ till they are inspected and ready to ship. So PLEASE feel free to leave some feedback on the kits listed above, my inital question in this post, and any other suggestions.
Anyone have the above setup for an o-ring rebuild?

I took a #8 flat washer, cut a tip off one side to allow the screw to fit with the washer under the feed neck magazine.

I screwed this onto a 3/8th head on 8/32nd threads screw no more than a 1/2 to 3/5 of an inch in length.

Met Jeff and Scott down here in Rehobeth and played a game of outlaw ball at Cape Henplopen (can't spell it but the state park with a beach and tons of wooded area with WW2 towers mixed in, check it out) for some 2 on 2 woodsball.

Crazy how 85 with humidity is so different than the 75 with no humidity reacts to paint. I had to use the bigger bore .695 insert on a deadly winds barrel over the .684 Lurker Barrel that broke brittle paint. I couldn't believe the heat is like a swell factor on paint. No wonder most barrels are so big bore.

Outlaw ball is here in Delaware. No real fields that are nearby but we had a blast all playing pump. After the game we picked up the paint that we found we shot. Cleaning up 30 shots is easy. The Pittsburgh pistol was a hit and popular.

So I'm not getting a reply from Metadyne. I would like to raise my FPS from 250 to 300 off of a 12 gram cartridge. I get 280 to 320 off of a tank but can't get the same off of a 12 gram.

Pump has more of an appeal to fewer shots and it'd like to shoot a 60 foot shot over a 40 foot for direct break and paint a target.

When I go to Cinci in September I plan on playing her again.

Got a reply from Metadyne in August regarding upping my fps off a 12 gram...

1) clean spring and lube - I did with a light quarter grams worth of bike chain grease
2) clean and check o ring at the end of the air chamber meeting the threaded breach - done
3) check regulator to make sure the 12 gram connects properly and tight to seal - used torque wrench to set to twice the diameter in millimeters equal in torque (25mm x 2 = 50) for adapter. Hand tight 12 gram in the thumper.

Achieved 27 shots on 30 or 29 pumps
- first two didn't shoot a ball
- first 12 at 280 fps
- next 18 at 260 to 220 (lost about 2 to 3 fps per pump)
- last 7 at 180 or less (last 4 shots did not register with two no shots in between)

Done twice with Valken Graffiti paint. Using JT 12 gram. Barrel mounted hand held chrono that's about +3/4 in real time. I'm happy with the results but would like a higher fps to start with (300 fps) and understand fps will decrease.

Here she is for outlaw ball, pistol play, rec reball, and close combat. Running 22 shots 280 to 220 FPS on a 12 gram. I get 33 total shots but the last are sub 220 (lower than my chrono can read and one read down to 180 FPS).

It's a tad bit loud, like a crack that echoes but is on target. The perfect sound to get shot to, the sound from the barrel sounds like a welt. It's straight and has shot three 12 gram cartridges worth of 60 balls. I got the second cartridge to shoot 29 shots over 240 FPS.

The Pittsburgh pistol, 12 gram with stock 10 round rail feed tube shooting through a freak kit with a white wolf airsmith tear tip 8" barrel.

Hand held

Well, all good things come to an end. I traded her for a CCI Phantom VSC that's my new toy. We had a great time at I.O.N. and played a great round at UwL this year. It's was a great time. Enjoy her Fancyfingers.

Here is the replacement...

Are thumpers the only ones able to use the 90grams? Would really like to know how you did it and want to know if it's possible to do it with a phantom.

Ok well seeing as I own the marker that this thread is about I figured I should keep it up to date, as long as Christian gives me the ok that is. Finally took her out to the field yesterday (the 17th) and it sure was a lot of fun. All the ref's had fun taking their turn with the one handed pump. It was a very good day until it was just me let on my flanking maneuver, I line up my shot, and nothing, it wouldn't pump, the bolt wouldn't catch, and then once I got the bolt to catch, no gas would go through. It would dry fire fine (with a live 12 gram in it) I got nothing out of it, I lost a game to equipment failure, I was not happy. Got home tore her completely apart and now she shoots fine, YAY! all in all it was a fun day definitely worth the trade and a lot of fun to shoot.

my worst was 38 confirmed welts in less than 8 seconds at EMR Castle Conquest 16. Got back-doored in a building by 2 chumps that obviously didn't feel I would understand being out after the 3rd or 4th paintball. There was so much blood sticking me to my clothes, my jersey had to be soaked with a hose before I could take it off.
