My first gun was the GoG eXTCY and I have loved and had no problems with I kept everything stock (until I lost my feed neck screw and couldn't find it but that was my fault so I upgraded to a q-lock). But I loved this gun and I still use it today

Well not exactly our starter guns but my wife rolls an empire mini, kinda weird ergos but they are solid and perform well. Maintenance is also very easy. And my personal flavor is a tippmann crossover, solid and simple marker. Both can be had for under $200 and give great performance and will make amazing back up/loaner guns when you're ready to upgrade.

I played paintball a while ago and had amassed a collection of Montneel Icon Z-1s and Mega-Zs. Recently, my buddies wanted to play paintball for a 40th birthday party. I brought my markers, but figured the field rentals would be better than what I had. Much to my chagrin, they were renting Tippmann 98s (Sorry Tippmann guys. I won't use a tippmann). So, I told them I have my own and they kinda laughed when I told them what I had.

Long story short, I had to use my backup, STOCK Z-1 because my Mega-Z leaked air after a few chrono attempts. My buddies were saying that they saw me (because I had my old bright blue mask with yellow lenses) and they fired at me and watched their balls fall at my feet. And then when I returned fire, I was zipping them past their ears (I can't believe I didn't HIT them. I'm so out of practice!).

Like the OP, my kids are 10 and over and I want to go play paintball with them (mainly because I had a blast that weekend and remembered how fun paintball is). So, I'm looking at markers for them. The Azodin collection look very interesting.

As far as the tippmanns and spyders go, you can find a ton of them on Craigslist and for cheap (I saw 2 Spyders and masks for $50). Any other types of markers, you'll have to scour the for sale ads here at pbnation (or hope that a random one shows up on CL).

I'd probably go with a Geo 3.5

Thank you!

I went to a paintball shop last weekend and looked up as many of the markers as I could.

They had some Azodin markers there and I talked to the owner about them and he mentioned that the Azodin guys are ex-Spyder guys. Talked to some other guys and I don't think that's the exact relationship, but there is something between them and their markers are similar.

There are a lot of early-2K intimidators that can be had for under $300, also.

I'm going to wait until I hit the field a few more times before I really take the plunge on something for my kids.

I started with the 98 custom years ago and recently grabbed another as I'm getting back into it. I think im going to look into lighter options for my girlfriend though

I still say Tippman Custom 98 is still the best choice, going electric requires a bit of tinkering at times, which can be frustrating for some people.

As we all know, the 98s are bomb proof so at least you'll have something reliable and cheap.

I'd say 98 or A-5. I started with an A-5 and have never regretted it!

A 98 Custom if you don't really care about performance and don't want to do maintenance. Because these things just always shoot no matter what, so there's that option.

If you want performance for cheap, and don't mind maintenance, a 2011 Proto Rail is a great shooter for cheap, and is very easy to upgrade with Dye parts.

GoG eNMEy is a solid choice to get started. Quiet, great shot, easy to maintain, and plenty of money left over for hopper/tank/paint!

I totally agree. I love the Enmey. Such a great buy for the money. You also won't take a huge hit when you try to sell it. Will be easy to sell back as well
