When you're a Republican nominee and David Brooks writes this about you...you know you're done...

Quote:
Romney, who criticizes President Obama for dividing the nation, divided the nation into two groups: the makers and the moochers. Forty-seven percent of the country, he said, are people:

who are dependent upon government, who believe they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to take care of them, who believe they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.

This comment suggests… he really doesn’t know much about the country he inhabits. Who are these freeloaders? Is it the Iraq war veteran who goes to the V.A.? Is it the student getting a loan to go to college? Is it the retiree on Social Security or Medicare? It suggests that Romney doesn’t know much about the culture of America…. America remains one of the hardest-working nations on earth.… It says that Romney doesn’t know much about the political culture…. [T]rust in government has declined….

The people who receive the disproportionate share of government spending are… Republicans… senior citizens… white men with high school degrees… middle-class workers, more so than the dependent poor.

Romney’s comments also reveal that he has lost any sense of the social compact… shifted… from the Reaganesque language of common citizenship to the libertarian language of makers and takers….

[A]s a description of America today, Romney’s comment is a country-club fantasy. It’s what self-satisfied millionaires say to each other. It reinforces every negative view people have about Romney….

[W]hen will the incompetence stop?

A better explanation is that the powers that be (central banks) hand picked this sucker to lose to protect their interests.

It is so much easier to blame "the powers that be" than to come to the realization that no one controls the world and we really do have to live with the consequences of our choices.

Romney showed his true colors in that speech, and it is not surprising to me. The funniest part of it all is that "red" states tend to be the "takers" and "blue" states pay more into the federal government than they take out. He was railing against the mainstay of GOP, White American Cheese.

I'm not talking about the world. I'm talking about the election. Are you trying to insinuate that the major banks don't have anything to do with the elections or who gets selected to run for their corresponding party?

That chart looks pretty even to me considering the populations of those states.

Let's see what the NYTimes says...

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...oodstamps.html

Looks pretty even to me except for some states (Oregon/Maine) that prob have diff/odd laws causing higher than normal averages. The trend here is more usage where the population is bigger. Not surprising.

Awesome, Romney outed Obama supporters as a bunch of leeches looking for handouts - which many of them are.

I wouldn't say 47%, but maybe 40 and climbing.

He needs to stick with this message and not apologize for it.

There's no such thing as a free lunch, even if a Obama promises you one.

Do you not understand how percentages work?

LOL what "you would say" is irrelevant. Let's talk with facts please...

47% is actually much closer to 5% when you eliminate the elderly and the extremely poor.

Do you not understand how the distribution of the population across these regions affects these percentages? Do you not understand that people pay sales taxes, state taxes, local taxes, gas taxes, etc?

How does the distribution of population across the nation effect the percentage of people that do something in a region?

Sales taxes, state taxes, local taxes, and gas taxes have nothing to do with your link (food stamp usage) and the other link (amount of people not paying federal income tax).

Can you not see how people who live in a congested area/city will be different than people in rural farming communities? Do you think the tax codes are the same for these people? Romney is talking about entitlements in that vid. That's a bit more encompassing than "red states don't pay as much taxes as blue states".

And of course those are only two of the many taxes paid by every citizen.

The thing about is, he's not actually "blowing" the campaign ... this is really what Mitt Romney and the Republicans he represents stand for. How no one has noticed until now is part of the reason the country is so ****ed up right now.
