Are new markers better than Vikings?

Assuming you have a nice 04 Viking with an aftermarket board with all of the modes.

Other than weight / possible smoothness. Is there anything a newer marker can do that is better than the previously mentioned 04 Viking?

The only thing other than weight that the new marker might have over a Viking is the ability to break.

As far as smoothness goes, that seems to be subjective based on the user.

In my opinion, there is nothing a newer marker can do that a well maintained Viking can't do better.

I agree with you completely. I don't think there's anything a newer marker can do that a Viking (with a new board) or even a Cyborg can't do.

I got a Valhalla Viking about 6 months ago, but didn't get to use it until this last weekend. It shot fantastic and has a Tadao board in it with all the modes I need. I didn't even lube it, just put a battery in it, chronographed and played all day.
EDIT; On the note of smoothness, it was just as smooth as any other poppet on the market. Neglagable barrel rise and accurate with a slight underbore.

1) Bulk. You can trim a lot of weight off a viking but you'll still have something that may feel bulky because of the girth of the marker.

2) Unnecessary complexity. Looking at the newer poppits I think a lot of extra complex bs is being added for the sake of having some kind of special feature to sale people on. The more extra bs in you put in a marker the more opportunity you give murphy's law to screw you over.

I shot my friends geo 2.1 and ego sl8r and would hands down take my Vikings over them. They both have more kick and felt uncomfortable( personal opinion) I do enjoy shooting cyborgs and find them to be very similar in feel to a Viking. When macdev releases the new Borg I may consider retiring the vikes for a bit but until then I feel as though they are still number one.

That's funny.....even when PE tries to copy, they still fail. The story on how the Ego came about is very interesting but isn't known to many. Hint, AKA is involved.

The Viking and the Cyborg are still the best poppit valve markers ever manufactured. It's just too bad the majority don't realize it.

North Korea considers the Viking to be the most glorious maker ever. So the answer is no...no new marker beats the Viking.

PE was going to collaborate with AKA and do the electronics and a few other things for the "new" stacked tube Viking (ever had a Nelson board in your Excal? Ugh.) then they they disappeared. The "collaboration" turned into the Ego, which you'll note does not have an AKALMP logo on it anywhere. Regulator kind of looks familiar too once you take away the fancy milling.

And yet, my Excalibur still gets more shots off a 68/45 than my Egos ever did, with better consistency.

Interesting, I've always heard that it was macdev who sort of ran with the stack tube Viking idea..

The only thing that beats a Viking is the Excal and even then its just a preference between closed bolt or open. I love the feel when you have two hammers going opposite directions no kick at all lol we should get AKA to come back and build something. I always and will always be a AKA fanboy!

Can't happen despite all of our wishes...

I wish they would produce new bodies and trigger frames and sell them, just so we could build our own.

I'm just going to assume that either:
1) You haven't gone onto their site in a couple months (at least since they started offering, new, bodies and frames) or
2) You know something that I don't... like, maybe, they aren't selling the frames they are advertising on their site.

think he's talking about new design bodies and not NOS (new old stock) bodies and frames

They're still making the best HPR I've ever used, best valves too.

I'd like to see their take on a valve for a modern marker though.

Exactly. Newly designed and milled bodies ready for anodizing would be great

I'd rather have Evil M bodies and frames, personally... but I see your point.

Very true, I own both a cyborg that was a rare lava 1/11 I believe and 2 tribal, very similar markers, the borg is an 06 and tribal 01 I believe. crazy how similar they are. I havent shot a viking or excal in years but from what I recall the weight was the only drawback, even then it still was one of the most efficient markers out there.
