Brakes, what is worth my money?
RSX type S needs rear pads and rotors all around since I believe at least my front ones are warped.
My question is, is the autozone and oreilly's stuff crap or is it oem quality or better? I like the stock brakes on my car and just want something that will match that performance and longevity. I've heard that some of the cheaper pads can wear rotors excessively and things like that.
Should I avoid the O'reillys stuff (there are 5 or 6 different grades, so I'm assuming that plays a role) or do I need to spring for name brand stuff.
Haven't priced out OEM parts yet...kinda afraid to.

Brembo blanks and Hawk pads do people right and are worth the money.
Aftermarket stuff seems to be hit or miss to me and OEM is never a bad option but that doesn't mean it's a good one.

The O'Reilly Ceramics aren't terrible. I mean, they're a ceramic just like anything else. I run them in my rear and they seem to do just fine. If you're not beating the hell out of it around a track, you probably don't need much better.
That being said, I'm running EBC Red Stuff in my fronts.

To an extent, yeah.
You get what you pay for. The store brand ceramic is still a ceramic. It's not the best pad in the world, it's also not the worst. As I said, I run them on my rear brakes and I like them. I'd use them again. And I also know guys who track their cars often who use store brand ceramics.
As far as rotors, you can get pretty cheap dimpled and slotted rotors. But, unless you're tracking it/beating on it all the damn time, there is absolutely no need for that.

I've ran autozone rotors on one of my cars 70K miles and have done many 100+ to 65 mph hard slow downs the pads were toast before 10,000 miles though. The rotors are ok with a good pad that has been properly bedded.

If you have to ask if autozone rotors are just rotors odds are you don't need anything else

thanks dom, i'm not opposed to having overkill brakes if it doesnt break the bank
im not tracking my car but i do drive somewhat aggressively on occasion. I also just don't want ****ty brakes. It's fundamental, to me.
I'd like to do a track day this year if money and time allows though.

If you're on a budget, AutoZone is fine.

Price things out on Rock Auto. Sometimes even with shipping charges they are cheaper.
I "upgraded" to Raybestos rotors and pads on all four brakes and feel a significant difference.
It could just be placebo, but given how I often I tow my trailer I thought it would be a good investment to skip the autozone/ advanced auto brakes and go for a name brand.

I've read in the technician thread that Raybestos professional was good, and have used some of their products. The rotors are pretty good at least. Don't get the cheapest pads you can. Ceramic isn't better really unless you're doing racing, it just doesn't produce dust on the wheels as much. I'd just get semi-metallic pads. Make sure your calipers are good before you put new rotors on.
O'reilly auto and Napa sell the Raybestos professional rotors, at O'reilly they're rebranded as Brakebest select. Otherwise you can check rockauto.

Fwiw, I loved my ceramics. The low dust helps a lot, even on the street.

I use the Hawk HPS+ on my NSX. lil more dust then the OEM but they stop awesome! Even cold they work great something a race pad will not do. Get stock rotors. Don't mess with the knock off ebay junk Brembos.
You want stopping power and great feel, just upgrade the lines to some coated bradded lines this made the biggest difference for me. I use the Hawk HPS+ with absolutely no fade with numerous track / time trial events under my belt.

What? Why would coated, "braided" brake line make any difference?

Keeps crap from getting between the bradding and lines, causing premature failure. Most quality bradded lines are coated for this reason. Keeps them shinny to

Because the rubber does expand when you brake and with Stainless steel they don't expand as much, giving you a different pedal feel.
That said, I did notice a difference on the last car that I had them on, but not sure if it was that or the upgraded calipers/rotors/pads that were done at the same time (larger brakes).
