Texas has a top 10 dline. It was record attendance at Texas stadium, a hard enough venue to come into and win.

Texas didn't play terrible. Texas played the best they will play all year.

Okay? The defense stepped up this week.

I can't be to hard on the defense. They're all young and the guys that aren't its their first year in a new system.

The Big 12 is notorious for NOT playing any defense so I'm not sure where you get that Texas has a top 10 D line. I'd venture a guess that at least 4 to 6 SEC teams have better D Lines than Texas.

If you're wearing crimson, you're wearing the uniform of the best team in the SEC. Tradition is what Alabama is all about.
And that's great for the Tide.

....but what would you do if you became the new head coach of a school with no tradition? Would you fall in line with everyone else, or would you use the **** out of everything you have at your disposal?

I agree. It works for Oregon. And if I were starting a program from scratch or taking over a program that had no history or tradition I'd probably do the same if I could. But if it works, eventually you start to develop your own traditions and over time, some of those traditions will stick and become a more stable part of your program.

Obviously, the only reason Oregon is able to do what they do with their Unis is their relationship with Nike. But even that won't last forever.

I get what you're saying, but just because you don't have the tradition of Alabama doesn't mean you have to whore yourself out and effectively become the Nike Factory Team.

To all of this: Exactly right.

Ummm.... It'll be a very long time for that one to go away. Nike was created because of the Oregon track team. Nike is in Oregon. Half of the buildings on campus have the name "Knight" in them. Nike uses Oregon athletics for R&D, as well (pro combat football gear was in use by the ducks almost a full season before public release).

It's hard to separate Nike And Oregon.... And it would take a collapse of the company for it to go away from the school support.

Ummm....that's probably the only tradition Oregon football has....it's not a new thing.

I would imitate and try to do what they did better than everyone. Tradition is made by success and I would look at those who have had the most to model it after. And tradition isnt something like new uniforms. Thats a marketing gimmick.

Doing things different and new doesnt make it better. Oregons offense works. But it doesnt work against damn good defenses who have time to adapt to it's pace. The pace of it and some fast players make it good and it works against teams with lesser coaching and athletes. Not against the big dogs. You wont beat a top ranked SEC team in the NC if you get there.

The players are just as fast, bigger, and meaner.

Also, dgaf if already posted. Two cool videos.

This happened at the SoCar game.

And these guys could go toe to toe with any HBC if not embarrass them. Gawdamn.

Dude.

Georgia Tech lost to MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE.

Do you think I'm concerned about a loss to LSU?

Tradition is really only effected by winning. It doesn't matter what kind of uniforms you wear, if you win, eventually you will have tradition. Oregon doesn't have it yet because they haven't won for a while. Having Nike give them free swag all the time I'm sure makes a good recruiting tool. Why not play on it. Tradition isn't built in a day and you can't expect Oregon to do it overnight. Since you can't recruit on tradition, you have to make the best use of what you do have.

I'm definitely alright with losing the NC. Most "traditional" teams won't even get that far.
