I know it's early, but any word on next year?

We are looking at options. Hopfully will have details pinned down by end of April. Plans start immeidately after completion of present years event. Many factors enter into selection which takes a while to pull together. Will announce as soon as under contract.

Thanks to all that participated i this years event.

Stick to the east coast please! Maybe a little further north than this year?

It's been creeping closer and closer to my hometown which saves money, and while I know that Dulles and the Hub are very convenient, I think Boston can compete with DC and ATL, and possibly offer more.

Logan Airport is a 5 minute cab ride from the BCEC, South Station is a 10 minute walk from the front door, and the Convention Center overlooks I-90 which is the main artery in and out of the city.

Our transit system (MBTA, or "The T") easily beats the ill-used MARTA rail which leads literally north-south and east-west. I can say from experience it's on par with the quality of the DC Metro but far less congested and much easier to navigate.

I-90 ("The Mass Pike") can get you out of the city to the 'burbs where hotels can be had for $50-$100 per night in 25 minutes. Even during high traffic periods it is less than an hour commute.

I ran into Anthony Vitale, Nicky Cuba and Greg Hastings at the BCEC yesterday at different (and completely unrelated) convention. Being experts in various facets of the industry I wonder if any of them would offer their thoughts? I know Greg has Ricks ear.

I'm sure it'll be in DC again in 2014, though we'll soon be due for another west coast excursion. Maybe by that point the industry will grow and stabilize enough to allow for a full-scale convention, possibly even one with a consumer/player friendly element accompanying (but distinctly separate from) the trade show.

In the scuba industry, the big trade show moves from east to west coast each year, with occasional stops mid country, so everyone gets a chance to participate... with emphasis on places that have cheaper air fares like vegas, orlando, etc.

I know, in the past there are "Unload and load" fee for the vendors at various venues. Some of the big companies were paying an addition $6-10,000 for their spots to the Union, or venue requirement, in addition to the fees to be in the show. The current venue (near Washington DC) doesn't have any of these fees, or they are very low. These fees would double the cost to attend the show. The big centers like NY, Chicago, Las Vegas, I believe have these fees. Some of these big centers also will not allow you to plug in a extention cord, without a facility staff doing it for you, which adds to the cost and slows things down alot.

We are in the process of finalizing contracts for the 2014 event and should be announcing end of next week.

I can tell you it won't be in Chicago. That area is the most expensive city in the US to hold a tradeshow and labor is currently negociating a 17% increase over the next 4 years on top of the 14% increase over the last 3 years!

On top of that we hear a lot of grief from many attendees over 40-50 degree weather - no idea what the response would be to Chicago temperatures in February.

After many weeks of site visits and discussions with industry leaders it has been decided to remain in the Washington DC area for 2014. Factors considered in the decision were among others airport availability, drive-in demographics and hotel rates.

The 2014 event will be held February 25 - 27, 2014 at the

HYATT DULLES, obviously adjacient to the Dulle International Airport. This location provides easy drive-in opportunities to over 60% of the country and convenient flight connections worldwide.

More information will be released as details develop.
