Alrighty... Here's the full lowdown from the email blast I sent to Keely:
Here's a late-night stab at some copy about day1:
"Neither rain, nor sleet nor flaming servers can keep PSP from our appointed broadcasts."
We had rain that blew in sideways, intermittant power and internet connections patched together that MacGyver would be proud of at the field while the video servers for the broadcast were turned off as the technical staff in Malibu were evacuated out of the fire zone... and despite all this, we had an AMAZING day of programming. Thank you all!
Do not count the show down for the count from the first day's broadcast. The show is being constantly retooled to give better audio and video quality for you. We normally start the stream an hour to two earlier than scheduled to test, tweak and give you as much of World Cup as possible, but there is only so much you can do with streaming video...
There are some tips for keeping your stream working well, which I have posted below and the Hosts and Crew are on the chat during the broadcast to help out if you have any problems.
To get to the show: Click on the scrolling banner that says "PSP LIVE! Click Here!"
Wait for the window to load! The player window is Flash-based and depending on your connection, browser and activity (Normally about two hundred people chatting, three video streams and the audio), it may take upwards of twenty seconds to load.
When the shows are live, you'll see the three live video cameras on the "Cams" panel in the player page. Click on any one of those to enlarge and push the video stream over the chat window.
The show is Streaming, so make sure that your internet connection can take the chat, audio and video.
Watch what the CREW says to do if you get laggy, lose audio or video and everything will remain running smoothly. You will see this post in the chat window a lot during the broadcast day. Heed it well:
IF YOU’RE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH AUDIO OR VIDEO, REFRESH YOUR STREAM (F-5) AND DELETE YOUR COOKIES AND CACHE… THE NOWLIVE PLAYER WORKS BETTER WITH FIREFOX THAN INTERNET EXPLORER. CLOSE EXTRANEOUS WINDOWS AND APPLICATIONS.
When the show is NOT on, the chat remains open and you can also listen to the rebroadcasts, view the uploaded pictures and videos in the "Media" panel.
The reason the earlier video links don't work is because we have upgraded the video's servers and code... The first day was snafu-ridden: not enough power and signal and far too much water and fire-evacuated servers. Day two was better and I dare to say that day three was actually pretty darned good.
If you haven't dropped, by I'd highly reccomend it, and if you swung by and it wasn't any good, I apologize again and reassure you it's better now and getting better-er every day.
We are running out of the VIP booth and the pros are loving being able to jump on the video and chat to help with the commentary and for post-game interviews. We've got the vendors coming up the rest of the weekend to get Q&A about their upcoming products...
Y'know what? If you come by the show between 10am and 5pm ET and you aren't fully satisfied, we'll DOUBLE your money back!
(But seriously... Don't jump in to the show and start spamming about no audio. Today three people were saying audio was gone over and over. We started to freak out thinking our sound went out until Matty Marshall said, "Hey... Can you hear me?" and the board lit up with multi-colored "YES"es. Follow the tips, hang out and enjoy the show)
