Maybe if you're suck. If you can't shoot a Glock well, you just suck at handgun fundamentals. They're handguns, not your penis.

Strong this, not to mention various grips to compensate.

I prefer combat grip on larger handguns

Late season hog hunt day 1 = SUCCESS!
Decided to climb a stand to check out the view when I heard squeals and snorts about 50yrds off in the brush. Within 20 minutes I had 2 down. The big one (140) made me chase her through the swamp before I put a nice .40 gold dot through her skull at 10yrds.
We were in the woods for maybe 30 minutes and this family of hogs decided to bed down 75yrds from the stand. Hog 1 50lbs, hog 2 140lbs with 3 piglets inside. Tomorrow we will hunt over the gut pile and see what happens.

That is what a 30-30 does to the face on exit!

30-30 vs shoulder!

Anyone do any turkey hunting here? Thinking about picking up a tag and going out for my first time. There is a lot of public land where most of the turkeys are bagged in my state every year about 3 hours away from me.

Also picking up an older martin bengal compound bow friday.

Our Spring Gobbler open April 22nd

I've never Turkey hunted before so I have just over a month to prepare. I have no idea where to begin.

What do I need to be successful?

I know I'll need a call, might download some to my FoxPro

Do you really need full camo? I usually hunt in camo pants, a black fleece with a brown vest and grey hat.

Scent control? I don't imagine their sense of smell is all that great.

Is it better to be in brush or near an open field?

You need a shotgun, turkey choke, and turkey load shells. Id recommend nothing shorter than 3" shells. You need a hen decoy, a box call, and full head to toe camo including a face mask and gloves. I suggest getting a pad to set on and maybe a monopod to rest your shotgun on.

Watch some videos online on how to do turkey calls. Its super easy to do with a box call. Turkeys dont have a good sense of smell, but they have supernatural hearing and eye sight. Dont make noise or move when you see one or hes gone.

As far as hunting them, you need to get to where you think some birds are before sun rise and just listen to see if you hear anything. Some people like using an owl hoot or crow call to locate turkeys. If you think you're in the right place (typically near water, hardwood trees, and a food source) go ahead and set up the decoy about 10 yards from you and sit against a big tree. The key is to hit your box call 3 or 4 times and wait to see if you get an answer. Wait 10 min or so between calls if you dont get an answer.

This is a pretty good website:

I bought a foam hen for 16 bucks at dicks. Got some Remington Nitro turkey.

I have a Mossberg 500 in black and od.

Would one of those $50 gillies ponchos be suitable for camo?

As far as calling goes I'll just download some turkey sounds to my fox pro

electronic calls are probably not legal. Id suggest getting full normal camo. Ponchos make noise.

It's not a plastic poncho, it's a mesh gillies suit type thing. Just shaped like a poncho
