Opinion poll on restoring Dye Iron Men Angel
ok yeah i bought that iron men with the eye hole atrocities. I think it will be my last project, selling others to fund and do it right. So opinion.
Option 1 is what i am leaning toward
Option 2 is a cop out but might have to be
Option 3 would be cheapest
Option 4 might be cost prohibitive and not sure if gains are worth it.

agreed, notice the 3rd eye hole through the corner of the detent into the threads. That is the problem one

Yea I voted for option 3. Just for the record my speed3 was epoxy'd and it looked alot better than that one. If you patched the bad holes could you re epoxy aswell? Is that including a re anno? I think a red to graphite would be awesome.

i dropped doc (of docsmachine) an email. I am not sure if he is taking new work.
If you tap and fill it with 6061 threaded rod the anno should match. I cant see doing a splash job on something with such beautiful milling and smooth lines.

can you take a pic of the board? i have a "dynasty" ir3 that has some daughterboard for the eye logic. wonder if your ironman has the same...

i mean you don't have to splash it. you could go matte that would help, or a nice fade.... idk. I agree splash is too much and it would kill the lines of the gun. still little faded spots are not as bad as what is on there now....

I think you should send it to Docsmachine. If anyone is going to do it the right way... he can. He'll tell you what can and cannot be done - I'd poll him. That detent in there looks to be a cocker one  If it is and it was only threaded in once, it might be recoverable.
Personally if all options are possible, I would have doc thread in some screws like he did on his dark, polish it to become flush, and then either have doc install some sort of custom eyes or have it flied. Maybe anodize it in an acid wash scheme. I don't think anybody has done that and I've been thinking about it myself.
As for the daughterboard, you should definitely keep that board setup. I had an adrenalin with the same board setup years ago that I used in the psp series and it rocked. It's like an old school meets new-school sort of thing. OG ftw. |
