Ill wait to see gameplay before I make any judgements about playability

I think the only problem I had with uncharted 2's third person was the camera positioning

They got a lot better in Uncharted 3 and less camera freak outs, but yeah I can't think of a single 3rd person game I've played that didn't have camera issues due to the vantage point and enclosed spaces.

Uncharted 3 blows 2 out of the water (w/ the exception of difficulty on the final boss).

I'm psyched for this game already. Too bad Nolan North (Desmond in AC games, and Drake in UC games) isn't doing the main voice! I love that dude. Wish he did more.

Seriously? North is in everything. It's just occasionally the developers let him do something other than, "Be Nathan Drake."

He was even the Penguin in Arkham City

I know he's in a lot, but I always feel that with the exception of a few key titles he's under utilized so often and he's insanely good.

I know he's done a few big ones like The Penguin that show off his adaptability, but I find I always like him the best when he's just sort of... himself. That Desmond/Drake feel. The everyman who can save the world.

He needs to be in more as the central character IMHO!

Now back to the topic at hand. The more I look into this, what little data is coming out, the more psyched I am. UC games are my favorite across most platforms overall, and the idea of a "new adventure" from Naughty Dog has me psyched.

I'm new to the uncharted series and started with UC3 and I must say for a console game, it is gorgeous. It definitely gives me a cinematic feel and like many other have said I had trouble differentiating from cut scenes and actual gameplay. On several occasions I moved the character a bit just to make sure it wasn't in a cut scene. I think this new game has potential.

they said in the video's that although it is a third person game it has a much different feel than the uncharted series; "night and day" difference in third person playability

so Im very eager to see gameplay

What the developers say is "night and day" difference to how the game actually plays

Hopefully "night and day" means the shooting is actually good this time. I just finally got around to playing and finishing Uncharted 3 and had forgotten how terrible some of the mechanics are in those games. I can't imagine playing that game and having to actually worry about conserving ammo.

newly released details

- game wont be as linear as uncharted, however it will not be a completely "open world" game

-gunfights will not play a very large role in the game as ammunition is clearly in short supply

-teamwork oriented to build a relationship with the characters, think ICO

- next issue of PSM will have a cover/spread on TLoU

The linear comment you have above makes me think it'll probably be something like Deus Ex. Where you could go around where you were, but transitioned to new "areas" at specific story points and could not move around outside the pre-defined zone for that part of the story.

this game has my hopes very high

game informer details

- game takes place 20 years after the outbreak
- joel (main character) was alive before the outbreak
- ellie (female sidekick) was born after the outbreak and grew up in a military quarantine zone
- joel is not necessarily a nice guy, he is a drug runner/smuggler for quarantine zone criminals
- joel is only looking after ellie based on a promise he made someone
- ND have said they are doing every thing in their power to make this game stand away from the uncharted series in terms of graphics and gameplay and they also are ensuring that the game is not one giant escort mission babysitting ellie

It definitely looks great. ND is the best studio for making games look good on the PS3. As for the gameplay, I can't wait to try it, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

No reason for me not to get my hopes up. The Uncharted games are my favorite console game series of the current generation (not saying all time, because nostalgia and age make you look back at games differently).

So if ND puts in the same amount of effort, and so forth, then I trust them until they give me a reason not to.

So psyched for this game.

i really really want to play this game but i simply cannot get immersed into 3rd person games for some reason. i wish they would offer a third person/first person toggle option to satisfy everyone.

I don't think it would work in this type of game.

I know they said they're trying to make it feel/play like it's not a "Uncharted Reskin", but I'm going to use UC as a point.

Due to the cinematic design of the game too much of it would need to be in 3rd person to do it. As you're climbing up walls, jumping into cinematic escapes that you partially control, etc. It wouldn't work in first person. You'd be forced to toggle in/out of first person a lot and that would "break" the "playing a movie" feel they have been going for.

I get the "non-immersive" as 3rd person isn't for everyone, but unfortunately I don't feel these types of games would work at all in any type of first person view due to the cinematic nature they go for.
