Settings to get a Geo3 shooting smoother then a Luxe and SFR question..

Sup fellas, well Ill get straight to it. I just moved from a Luxe to try out a Geo3. I absolutely love how smooth and quiet Luxes are but Ive heard so much positive things about the Geo3. I've read many threads about closing the SFR and lowering dwell to make the Geo shoot the smoothest. Is this true? Also what does the SFR actually do? Why have it in if there's an option to close it? If someone can give me a concrete answer I would greatly appreciate it. Want to get me Geo, once it gets in, to shoot just as smooth or smoother then a Luxe. I do understand adjustments are made after 10-15 cases. Thanks fellas for your help.

Look up jack wood geo 3 interview on YouTube answers a lot of questions on the sfr from the man him self. As for being smoother you have to remember the luxe weighs more so that will help with some felt recoil and barell rise. As far as lowering dwell if you have say 10 cases you could start lowering your dwell slowly in small increments till you see the gun start havin inconsistent croon readings. Then go up till they leavel back out and half a mil after that. Just remember if you play we're it is cold you may have to fine tune from day to day.

Sfr closed! (Pointing to you) soft bolt tip... And break it in... It'll shoot like a luxe! I love it
Sfr controls the bolt speed and amount of air the bolt uses to travel, I would use a chrono when you adjust your settings such as dwell, sfr etc. full break in is about 25-30 cases... It could be sooner that you start to feel smoother.

awesome thanks for the feedback so far. ive also read on a thread, if you close the sfr and set the dwell to where you want, once you start ramping, there is a decrease in velocity, but when you 1 ball it the velocity is fine. any truth to this? also i read something that Mr wood wrote that you dont need to adjust for the cold unless its severe temps like 10 degrees or lower. I play in TN, KY area, so im assuming I dont need to adjust for this.

it controls the speed in which the air in front of the bolt dumps, controlling the bolt speed. It has nothing to do with the amount of air used. 25-30 cases is... just... so many

Yes you could have shot drop off that is why it helps to have a good croon when doing adjustments.

This is true, but if this happends, turn ur sfr up until it stops, but I'd leave ur dwell stock until you get 25-30 cases

alright so from what im gathering from all this:

1. break in 20 cases roughly
2. turn sfr off (points to you)
3. turn dwell down
4. adjust dwell until shooting consistent

is this correct?

I run my dwell a 23 currently. I had it a little bit lower before I rebuilt the gun with fresh o-rings (as a precaution since I bought it used). Ran it stock for a number of cases and now I have been slowly tuning it down as it breaks in. Right now, 23 is where it is happiest.

To the OP. If the SFR is at the slowest setting the determining factor is the dwell. The more shots the gun has through it, the more the o-rings break in and the smoother it gets as you can bump down the dwell. Some guns can run lower dwell than others and one dwell setting does not necessarily mean any gun with that setting will feel the same (if that makes sense). Best thing to do is run a lot of paint through it and then tune it to as low as you go. You will probably find it not as smooth as the Luxe, but it will be damn close.

So for my 3.1 that's only got 2 cases thru it should I run it at around 25?

Break in the marker and then dwell tune...if you do it now...you will have to do it again later.

just to caveat off of that do you need to reset your dwell everytime you replace all the o-rings?

You may need to bump it up a bit...but only if there is a drop in performance after you replace them.

You will likely have to bump it up at least some (likely close to the stock dwell for optimum consistency). There is some break in that occurs on the parts themselves but the majority is the o-rings wearing in to match the other parts and create less friction that allows for reduced dwell.

the lowest you can lower ur dwell is 25.2 to get a full bolt cycle any lower and the air is coming out of the bolt before it is all the way forward... just a tip

Depends on the gun and how broken it is. I was running it at 23 before my last rebuild.

Every gun is different, some can run lower dwells.
Dwell has nothing to do with perceived recoil.
If your bolt is venting air before it's all the way forward your gun is broke as #%$@.
