Will it be automatically 'detected' or do i need to download something throw it on a flash drive and load it up in Ubuntu when I get it installed again?..

(i had it installed yesterday. ****ed up/reformatted whole comptuer..) but on the wireless networks thing on the top right it acted like my wireless card was turned completely off.. didn't even give me the option to choose 'wireless' (is this gonna be fixed if i manually install something?)

edit: and i pressed the ubtton on my laptop to turn wireless on/off and nothing happend in ubuntu.. works fine in windows though

Just connect it to ethernet when you're setting it up.

sweet i'll do it tomorrow..

THEN when it gets internet connectoin via ethernet will it detect my card/download updates and all? (sorry for the questions lol i tired ubuntu on an old laptop and it was too old and the card wasnt supported).. now i wanna try it on this one

You need a hardwired connection to initially set up Ubuntu. Once you have all of your restricted drivers installed, you're in good shape and can switch to wireless (assuming you get it working).

alright cool what would you guys recommend using to shrink/make a new partition? just use what the ubuntu cd and do it from there or something like gparted or another program?

Gparted should be able to do anything you need it to do.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was to download the Linux System Rescue CD. It was my first Linux live CD and it ended up being my most used CD..ever. It has Gparted and many other valuable tools..I suggest you burn that first and use it to resize/shrink.

What up guys? Well, so far this week I have succeeded installing Debian, I then deleted M$ accidentally. Reinstalling it(took 3 hours). Debian is now gone

And, I am thinking about trying a new distro. Any suggestions? My fam still wants M$

So, I thought about using an easier to install Linux, at least until I get a laptop. I am really debating between Fedora and openSUSE.

so my eee should be showing up in the mail sometime early next week (i hope...), does anyone know of a relatively idiot-proof way that i can set up a pxe server in either windows XP or ubuntu so as to install eeebuntu and/or W7? i can probably install 7 by booting into the XP install that comes on it, and ubuntu using WUBI from 7, but where's the fun in that?

also a possibility, but the biggest one i have is 2GB, which would work for eeebuntu, but there'd need to be some fancy shuffling to get W7 on there.

I just need a fresh experience. None of this Windows bull****, or this Apple "IM SUPER HIP CAUSE I OWN A MACBOOK" stuff.

Pretty much. I had a run-in with DSL when I had some problems with my laptop, but besides that, no other Linux experience.

Ubuntu is a great way to start. Mandriva, Fedora, and openSUSE are also good starters.
