To Purchase or not to Purchase, E-Portal

I am purchasing a Ego 2011 tomorrow. I want to know if the Ego 2011 has any firmware upgrades that a new gun wouldn't have. Ordering the gun from ANSGear if that makes it less probable the gun has been on the shelf since 2010/2011.

Originally I answered "The Ego11 firmware has not changed since release and is at version 1.31", and this is incorrect. The correct answer is -

The latest version is 1.31 which was released in September of 2010 however it's possible that you could come across a marker with an earlier version of firmware as many circuit boards were manufactured prior to that date in preparation for launch. Check the version number by pushing and holding the power-up button to switch on the marker.

strange my ego11 had to be updated to 1.31, it was 1.2x when I was using the e-portal to add my splash screen. I did the same to a buddies Ego11 as well when I added a splash to his.

So, I purchased a new Ego 2011, Swamp 2. It is running 1.30. Any ideas what is updated between 1.31 and 1.30. I am thinking about getting the e-portal, the update and ability to save settings on the PC.

I got one with MY CSL it has never been out of the package. Only thing its good for is changing the splash screen Imo. (Nothing Performance wise) everything with the exception of the home screen customization can be done threw the 3 key pad just like the older Egos. I guess you can transfer settings from one marker to the other if you have the same marker but to me thats useless to most because settings for one may not be good for another. I leave all my PE markers stock settings and run paint threw them till they smooth out. In the 7 years I have been shooting PE, this has worked for me time and again. So I see no need for it.

It only works on windows based computers also.

I had problems on my first install. When I re-installed it worked fine. I'm using it on a dell laptop running XP SP3.

Hmmm this is interesting. In Australia it appears my Ego11 only comes locked into semi mode. Apparently talking to one of my mates at the field who also just bought a new Ego we can only change to tourney settings by buying the e-portal software. Anyone got any info on this? Regional specific? I find it unusual as my Luxe has all available tourney modes out of the box

I believe it has to do with laws banning full-auto and burst fire on firearms in Australia but I do not know the specifics(I'm American). I have seen this topic come up about Macdev(Australian company) markers that need to be re-flashed when they went overseas(not sure if wrong from the factory or used markers leaving the country). I would bet Planet Eclipse flashes the markers for semi only when shipping them to Australia to comply with Australian law so if you purchased new from an Australian store or ordered directly from Planet Eclipse to an Australian address you would most likely get a semi only flashed marker. Like wise if the marker was originally sold in Australia it would probably have semi only firmware on it.

Not entirely sure, but sounds like its tourney locked which you can change yourself.

I do know that Australia is strict about using semi only, but I don't think PE programmed them to be semi only, though I'm unsure as I've never heard of it before.

Definitely not just tourney locked as I a have an etek 3 as well that was no problems getting into the ramping modes via the leds etc and they run basically the same tourney lock button. When you unlock the ego and go into firing modes it gives you nothing but uncapped semi.

We do have very strict laws here yes but our tourneys run 15bps millenium so you need to be able to unlock and change the firing mode. Just seems strange I can do it with the etek and my luxe as no restrictions but the ego did? Oh well, e-portal it is then

Cheers guys.

Version 1.30 incorrectly reports itself as version 1.25 to E-Portal. This bug does not cause any problems but has been fixed in version 1.31.

There are no other changes in version 1.31 and so there is no need to upgrade.

All Eclipse guns that are exported to Australia are restricted to semi-auto in order to comply with Australian regulations.

Any players traveling to Australia should ensure that their markers are semi-auto only or risk losing them at the door.

Australian players traveling to events outside of Australia can use E-Portal on compatible markers to change the firmware and then change it back again before re-entering Australia.

Ok, so maybe a little off topic but still appropriate I think.

Picked up e-portal today and installed it fine.......However......

It tells me as I'm running a 64 bit version of windows I need to Disable digital driver enforcement on startup, see help file more more info.

If I'm missing something point it out but there is bugger all in any of the help files about this. I would have thought it would be obviously under "Support" - Nope. Checked the disc for the installation instructions - Nope.

Pretty annoying although did install the DART kit and wound the solenoid control back and stuff me if it isn't smooth as butter. With a bit more fine tuning this could rival my Luxe
