'09 FASOR Design Challenge
Foreword:
Participation in the challenge is optional. Designs will be submitted for all to see, so if you have technology or parts that you do not want to share with the general paintball community then do not put them into your design. This challenge is to showcase your design and is for fun only.
Challenge rules:
1.) Marker design must be a FASOR. FASOR is defined as "Forward Air, Spring Operated Return". Any marker design falling under that description is valid for this challenge. This rule is left intentionally vague as to support a plethora of design options. Judges will have the final call over what constitutes a FASOR marker. Please consult the judges if you are unsure.
2.) Design period for this challenge will run from 12:00 A.M. January 1st, 2009 (Pacific Standard Time) to 11:59 P.M. (Pacific Standard Time) January 31st, 2009. All entries must be submitted for hosting by the end of the allotted design period.
3.) Challenge participants can only submit one official design for judging. Multiple entries will be accepted, however only one design will be judged. Please note which marker design you wish to be judged at the time of submission.
4.) Please refrain from submitting multiple times. This will make the judging easier and will also make the challenge fair to all participants. Clarification for this rule means that once you have submitted a marker design no further revisions will be accepted by the judges.
5.) Marker designs must be submitted in a common digital file format. Formats suggested are: IGES, STEP or STL. Exceptions can be made by the judges depending on the CAD software the participants and judges have access to.
6.) Please refrain from doing real threads on parts as it may cause problems when importing submitted designs. Items like barrels, screws, feednecks and the like should not have real threading. This will not affect your overall score with the judges.
7.) Judges may submit designs, but cannot be judged for reasons of integrity and fair play.
8.) Rules are subject to change periodically because of the nature of the challenge.
Judging Criteria:
1.) Judging is optional. All candidates for a judge position must post intent to judge in this thread. Judging should be reserved for those who cannot participate as a designer.
2.) Judges should be CAD competent and technically competent in regards to paintball technology and paintball marker design.
3.) There shall be a maximum of three judges to keep the judging time to a minimum and to have a tie breaking vote should a tie in the scoring arise during the challenge.
4.) Judges shall not score designs until after the end of the design period. Scoring will be kept secret until all judges have scored each submitted entry for judging. All other submissions will not be judged. This is to keep the judging time to a minimum.
5.) Judging will be scored on a scale from one to five in these three categories:
- Overall Design
- Detail and Improvements
- Appearance
6.) Additional categories may be added by judges, but may not exceed a point total of twenty five.
7.) Judges are as follows (in no particular order):
