Ego 5 with star Frame Noid Mod?
Hey guys im new to the fourm but not so much to paintball.
I have an EGO 5 and I love it more than any marker I have ever shot. I have it all polished and the thing shoots ropes. I know PE stopped making Noids for guns from 05/06 and im curious if any of you have ever heard of people milling out their bodies to accept newer noids. Maybe the new EGO 11 adjustable noid? or even just something that will fit in case my current noid dies.
Thanks in advance.

I have pondered using the 11 noid as well, but I'm unsure if it will work or not. It would be very cool to be able to have an adjustable noid, and would keep us older ego owners from being left in the dust.. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable in this area will chime in.

Thanks for the response I was just thinking about it because from what I understand the only real changes going on with Egos are body styles and internal "upgrades" and modifications. Correct me if im wrong but with the right milling isint it possible to fit all of these upgrades into older style bodies? Because IMO my Ego is always the best looking gun on the field haha

To do this you would have to have a manifold custom made. Possibly mill the frame for the bigger noid. Lastly you'd have to get rid of the QEVs as the Ego 11 solenoid already controls venting (hence the flow restrictors.) Can it be done, sure. Is it worth the amount of custom work it would take to do it, that's up to you.

Well eventually there will be no more 05/06 Ego solenoids and I would find it worth it to make my ego not be a paper weight and I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one that feels this way. Especially with all the highly coveted PL Egos such as the Mantis, XSV, Dark, Nexus, and the SL66's. Plus I would be willing to spend the extra money to have an adjustable solenoid. I think the hardest part of this is finding someone to make the custom manifold.

Thanks for all the imput guys and turns out i was wrong about which frame I had. Its not the star frame, I have the Warped Sports Dark Frame. As for finding me that noid I owe you one man. Still though is it possible to have like a sleeper Ego? Have an old body with all new internal parts? Seems like it would be a kickass idea.
As for the custom manifold. I have a close friend who is a machinist and has access to all the cnc milling equipment we could ever dream of. All I would need to know are the dimensions for the part and he can make it for me.

It's essentially the same, the star frame came stock on the Dark Egos, but they came with a Dark membrane pad instead of the stock one. As for having newer internals in an older ego, you can only install a Cure3+ or Cure4 and 08 LPR piston if you use the 08 springs. You cannot use any newer rammers since the 07 and up Egos have an integrated rammer housing in the body. I would recommend having a good barrel kit, Cure3+\4, and possibly the Violent SL3 reg over anything else.

Again thanks for all the help, do you know if you can buy these parts through planet eclipse? And as for the custom manifold do you have any idea what the dimensions would be on that. I am in love with this marker and its turned into a satanic love child project of mine. I wont stop upgrading and modifying her until she is perfect. The milling kinda reminds me of a karni and it just has that class and prestige that i think the newer markers are severely lacking in.

The way to do this IF it will fit in the frame (big if IMO) is to have a custom manifold created, use banjo fittings in place of the QEV's and run the standard LP hose to the rammer housing.
The big hitches are...fitting the noid in the frame, having the manifold made correctly (its a lot of micro work to make those passages, make sure the voltages on the Ego11/CSL board are the same as the Ego6 board, so it's able to adequetly power the solenoid, getting dwell dialed in correctly.
Rammer speed and force need to be taken into consideration so different valve springs may be needed as well.
There is a lot to consider and honestly by the time you dump that cash you could either have bought a parts gun if you are doing this to replace a faulty noid, or even be close to buying a much newer ego.
So if you love your current marker enough to want to do that much work instead of paying a similar price for a new marker by all means.
Just keep in mind it's a lot of work and cost.

So essentially what your saying is its just not worth the money to do... </3 I guess i'll just save up for whatever the newest ego is at the time. Just gotta keep her for nostalgia. She was my first highend and has yet to fail me. Although if I did do all this work I would have one of the most unique and badass guns ever? I think so.

For me I would say it's not worth it. If you want a really unique gun I think it would be a great project, but because of the cost I couldn't imagine one ever getting that kind of investment out of the gun.
IMO fun project, but not something I could justify undertaking as an individual, as a group maybe.

By never getting that kind of an investment you mean I spend more money then I get performance wise even when I bought the gun for $150 With enough time I think I can get some crazy performance out of it. Just need to know who to trust doing the work.

More so what you'd get back if you sold it. Or issues that could arise from having a custom piece, but also the performance. IMO you want a daily use there when ya need it gun spring for the ego 11you want a wicked custom that isn't supported by the factory but is super unique do the project. Pending cost I may have interest in this too, for a custom gun

Its something ive always thought of. As for an every day shooter I have quite a nice etek three thats working just fine for recball. I play for fun on the weekends, never been into tourneys or competition. I kinda want to do this just as a cool project to undertake and see if its possible. As for your personal interest, I have a feeling your a little more knowledgeable about how this would go down than me would you mind if i refer to you for advice along the way? I have no means of compensating your service and advice although I think just your interest alone will be enough to warrant the assistance.
If it turns out I bit off more than I could chew im most likely getting her annoed and keeping her stock.

The best solution that I can come up with is to modify the 05 solenoid's manifold to include air restricting allen screws for the air paths to the front and rear rammer. This would mimic the effect of the ego 11 noid. It's something that DLX did with the luxe (The 'feathertouch screw') and there is an 'adjustable manifold' availabel for shockers. This would allow you to keep an 05 bone stock essentially and not have to worry about some of the other challenges with the ego11 noid adoption.
Just my $.02.

Thats brilliant the only issue is the modification. I dont even know where to start of, or how to mill. Other than making a mech ion I have verry little experience making modifications on my guns. If someone had already done this and the information is readily available I could maybe see myself trying it. Im just skeptical. i guess someone needs to be the first person to try this insanity haha. What I really need is someone I can trust to do these modifications and who I can pay to have them done right.

Understood, I originally had mentioned this to a guy on the shocker forum that was making custome frames and adjustable shoker noids, but he got out of that before it took off, I debated taking it to another custom machinist there but he also stopped doing custom work prior to me getting a crack at having him do this. I'd probably try it myself with a drill press and a tap and die, but I'd need time and a spare manifold and right now I have neither.
I'd easily pay to have it done. Trick is to find another resource to get it going.....
