What type of 'spam' is it? Did they say? Sounds like the pan-fried cheesy kind to me......
And spamming (whether in email, mass media or forums) is still the attempt to force a message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. And if that's the case, doesn't seem anymore like spam to me than the hundreds of 'press releases' that are posted here.
I don't care that 'Team X got sponsored by Company Y' or that Team Z feels the need to tell all about their upcoming schedule. Just because it is labeled 'Press Release' doesn't mean its news. (With that said, be looking for some press releases coming soon from Thunderstruck.....lmao)
But I understand the 'need' for it. It's a way of showing companies are supporting scenario teams and are here for 'us' and more importantly: of providing exposure for said companies.
With that said, I think it is silly for the powers that be to tell you (even though you and I haven't always agreed on certain 'exposures') that you can't recruit on a scenario forum, as forums have always been a way to connect, recruit and network with people/players with similar interests/desires/needs.
Maybe you just need a press release about 2008, your plans, schedule and what you are looking for?
