BLAST charges $80 to replace orings?

I sent my G6r in to BLAST 3 weeks ago because of what I thought was a blown solenoid. I was charged $80 for simply replacing o-rings. They charged $15 for the o-rings and $45 for "labor" and $20 for shipping. If i would have known it was simply some o-rings I would have taken it to a local pro shop but they called me after the fact. I am a little disappointed in them because I have heard they are usually pretty easy to deal with. Anyways just wanted everyone to know my experience with sending a marker in to Bob Long.

Let's cover some basics here. Are you using a low pressure tank, dow 55, and triflow oil? How long have you owned it, and are you the original owner?

Yes, yes, yes, had just got it when I realized there were issues and no. I have had g6rs and 4 vices in the past and I am familiar with the maintenance. This post wasn't about how to make sure this didn't happen again it was to show my experience with blast.

Nevermind, missed that you weren't the original owner.

Im not mad at anyone more of just being disappointed that a well known company charges that much for a seemingly simple task. Once again I am just telling my story of my experience and giving my opinion in dealing with BLAST and the circumstances of this experience.

That sucks. In the future, I'd recommend anyone sending in markers for work to include a message asking the techs to call you before making major repairs or call to give you an estimate.

I'll tell you a true story from the semi-conductor industry... An older silicon growing machine was down and the original manufacturer was out of business. The company (TI) called in a repair company to take a look... after numerous failed attempts the company decided to call one of the guys from the old company even though he was retired. He got there examined the machine for about an hour, left to get lunch, then walked back in and replaced a fuse. The company received an invoice for $25,000.37. The invoice had 2 lines... Replace broken fuse - $.37 and Knowing which fuse was broken - $25,000.

Moral of the story is that getting it back in qualified hands is not always the cheapest thing to do, but it ensures it will be fixed correctly. I agree it is a little pricey, but now you know your g6r is in top shape.

Thank you for sharing. Prices sound reasonable and you now have a working marker that A: You sent knowing that Bob Long is a business and it's only ability to survive in business is to actually charge for quality work. B: like someone else already pointed out you should have either called or put a note in the box explaining what you specifically needed done.

Either way you were gonna have to spend the money for the shipping. I'm sure you know every service facility has a minimum labor charge. The price for the o-rings seems reasonable.

So what was the purpose of this thread?

$15 for parts (this is pretty standard if they changed all the orings)

1 hour of labor @ $45 (this is also very in line with industry standard)

$20 for shipping (this money went to the post office, not blast)

sounds like they did a standard job at a reasonable price that left you with a working gun.

Just telling people about my experience, expressing my opinion about the transaction and what someone could expect to pay if they ever want to simply put a couple o-rings in their guns.

What you should have done

Posted here, telling us your problem

Bought an oring kit

Replaced orings

Kits cost up to 25 - 30 bucks

Your own labor is free, our information is free.

Could have saved yourself 50 - 55 bucks. Instead you had a profesional fix your gun for you. They don't work for free.

I know, but like I originally posted, after talking to friends and other players they felt, from what I described, that the issue had to deal with the solenoid. That is why I sent it in.

When a gun leaks, 95% of the time it is NOT the solenoid. Most competent techs know this.

Noids are a lot tougher than people think. Short of putting thousands of shots through one and wearing it out or getting foreign particles in one odds are one of the other dynamic orings is the issue.

45 for labor seems a little high but not excessively so. The other charges are about the going rate

i should start charging people at my regular field for fixing their markers... most of the problems are dynamic o-rings and bad fittings/ macroline...
