ive picked one up recently...all i can say is it has surpassed my beliefs. i thought it would be like the ego...not even close. it has a much smoother shot, and little to no kick. the sound is almost the same...but the shot is flatter and IMO more accurate with good paint to barrel match.

I have owned my impulse for 3 weeks now so I have played 1 tournament and 2 practices with it and put 8000+ shots through it so far... To say the least I love this marker it is the best feeling gun I have held shoots butter smooth and has no kick.Ego owners at the field were very surprised with its performance and it's not even broken in yet so nowhere to go from there but up. Boss paintball has also made a bolt for the impulse which seems very interesting and I might have to check it out once I see more about it but videos will be coming as soon as I get home for fall break: trust me if you are looking into a impulse just buy it you will not regret it and you will never want another marker. The impulse is a 10/10 from me best marker I have ever owned

How did you find and dig up this thread? Bit necro but whatever
Anyway, it depends who you ask. Imped4now swears by his lurker eigenbarrel. I personally prefer my freak barrels.
As far as bolts, people have tried others such as the boss bolt, techt and some of the ego bolts. I believe the general consensus is there's not a significant enough improvement to justify the cost. The largest benefit is that the boss bolt had an option to remove the pin. Other than that the stock is very efficient as well as easy on paint.

What do you like about your freak barrels? Did you have to get it bored for the imp?

I'm with Imped and prefer the Lurker barrels.

I have enjoyed the TechT bolt, but as Twaltz said, it really isn't a huge change, perhaps does not justify the cost.

I like the cost of freak barrel along with the interchangeable bores and its quieter than the stock. And no, the freak barrel is made with the bore size for the inserts. Others have taken the stock barrel and had them bored out for freak inserts, however the machinist who does it (nerve) hadn't tried a JT barrel yet when I was looking and I didn't want to be the practice piece.

Nerve does good work, there are this here that got their barrels done and shipped back quickly. I had a local friend do mine, and I like it. I also have a deadly winds cf barrel and a freak barrel, and the freak system (depending on the tip) is generally quieter than my deadly winds.

You will probably get a ton of opinions on this - but I am happy with my Lurker PB Eigenbarrel Kit.

This. Don't waste your money on more expensive kits, this is all you need.

Yes the impulse is not picky on lube. I personally lube only the ram and not the bolt.

That is a result of dust and fine sand getting in and the actuation of the bolt. Although it won't really hurt performance I personally don't like it. Best ways to minimize it is to not play with it at really dusty places, do not lube the bolt, and wipe down the bolt and breech after every day of play. I have been able to minimize my bolt wear by doing these things but have a tiny bit from a very dusty field I played at once.

The Impulse is a non-picky poppet....it's as picky about lube as an LV1, which means it isn't. You can oil or lightly grease the ram switch oring...hell, run it dry. It really doesn't matter past a certain extent.
