Turbocharger/Supercharger pros and cons, and how to install one

I am going to get an 01 3.8L v6 mustang soon, and i want to know some pros and cons of supechargers and turbochargers. What additional parts will I need? Is there some sort of a guude on doing this? Is there an easy to read diagram of a 3.8? How much will it cost me? I would appreciate anything, as i am new to any of this stuff.

Well for one, i cannot drive yet. But once it comes time to upgrade to something more powerful, why buy another car when i could easily get another 150 horses out of the car by turbo or supercharging it and getting forged internals for it?

Tell your parents to get a better job, so that they can afford to get you a V8 stang

getting forged internals on a 15 year old car and a turbo or super is a waste of time, money, and effort. with that being said a simple google search would solve your problems... learn to do research on your own without relying on others, especially in a paintball forum! Superchargers are belt driven mostly and have a greater amount of parasitic loss because it requires the belts to drive and power it. a turbocharger is exhaust powered it uses the exhaust to power itself. your v6 and smaller motors will benefit more from turbo, and larger motors like v8 will have an easier HP gain from a supercharger without most of the hassles that a turbo will put you through... tapping the oil pan, intercooler, new manifolds, etc...

The money you're going to spend turbocharging/supercharging the car properly could buy you a better car.

Don't bother modding a v6 mustang, especially one from that generation. By the time you're done modding it you're gonna be out $5000 at the very least, and that's for a supercharger and supporting mods. Turbos would be even more. Even then it'll be barely any faster than a stock v8 mustang from the same year and still probably not as fast as a new mustang.

Cheap, fast, reliable. Pick two.

Not all superchargers have tons of loss, and the loss on a supercharger made for a v6 is gonna be less than the loss on a supercharger made for a v8. Look how many people are supercharging i4s these days.

Turbos also take power away from the car by way of pretty heavily restricting the exhaust.

There's root style, and centrifugal superchargers, and they take air from the intake, and uses a certain gear ratio to compress air so more oxygen can be used by the engine, and it does this using power from the drive belt. A turbocharger takes exhaust gasses, and has another turbine connected to the intake, and uses the exhaust force to compress the air coming in, but has some lag due to the need for a few firing cycles needed to expell sufficient gasses. A supercharger doesn't have this lag, but requires extra power from the engine to power it. I know some stuff, and I have decided to go with a v8 instead. Thanks for the ****ty insults though, I really appreciate it

kid its all in good fun like trashtalk on COD - you are 15 and should have nothing to do with a mustang - let alone anything boosted

I have driven and wrecked plenty - just get a nice clean daily driver and save up for a nice Cobra or something when you are older

this is me being nice and being serious.... don't take it for granted

Very good advise. If I had all the cars I wrecked I'd be a millionaire. If I would have kept my first Chevelle and restored it and just bought plain cars as daily drivers I'd still have it. I was a master mechanic for 30 years.

You definitely don't want a v8 powerhouse for your first car, might seem like a good idea now.. But it's most definitely not a good idea, you will lose your license or your life.

If a person can't handle a 260hp mustang I don't want them on the road at all. Those new edges weren't fast.
