Tougher eye pipe?

So my eye pipe is cracked. Guess it's pretty common. But while searching for a new one, I can across this one on Amazon. It claims to be a "newer revision" of the eye pipe which is thicker and I assume thereby less likely to break. Though I'm not sure how it can be 60% thicker, but yet still fit in the close tolerance area that it does...

Does anyone have any details on this or similar? Has there really been revisions that are real improvements? Are there solid aftermarket companies that make one that's worth a damn?

That's for the M2 and will not fit the reflex as its a bigger size.

Nope. Have to get them directly through dye. And they really shouldn't break unless your cranking your barrel on. Put an oring on the back of the barrel and just snug it on. You'll never break an eye pipe again.

I didn't notice until I chopped a ball and was taking it out to clean. The plastic is brittle and just crumbles to dust. Poking around online, that seems to be pretty common.

It really doesn't break unless the barrel is cranked on, believe me. But I guess if it's on the internet it must be true.

It was on this message board. lol Sooo maybe what you're saying should be questioned as well?

I'm kidding. Thanks for the tip. I could have crumbled this eye pipe with a strong breath though. Like an old Halo hopper.

Lol. Yeah. One thing I did that actually helped cushion it too against the barrel is I took an oring that was perfect size of the eye pipe and glued it to the end of it that would touch the barrel. It gives it cushion so it doesn't crush it.

the eyepipe only crumbles if you have previously cranked down the barrel to the marker... cracking it.. and not cleaning it for long periods of time..
makes that eyepipe very brittle..

you can get eyepipes for $7-8+shipping directly from dye. or look on ans for same price.. i picked up a handful, and paid $7 for priority shipping... got it in 2 days...

Another option is to look into this thread for a metal option.

And that's exactly why I posted this. Thank you sir.

Though, for the record, I don't know if I'm buying into that design. If you have to cut a slit/hole in the metal for the eyes to see through, you've kinda defeated the purpose IMO. It's basically a metal detent holder now.

Some people would rather have that than a plastic pipe that needs to be replaced every so often.

Me, personally, I'd buy a metal one and use a clear epoxy to fill in the hole. Then I'd have the best of both worlds. IIRC, it'd infringe on Dye's patent for Cliff to sell the pipes like that, but it's fine for individuals to do it themselves for personal use.

Ehhh if the plastic eye pipes were $39.99 a piece or something, I might look into something like that. But as it is, it just doesn't seem like a reliable solution to me. I'll throw an o-ring in there and just try to not tighten the barrel like a beast. This marker also splits duty with others, so it's not a huge deal.

From my understanding, all broken eye pipes are caused by user error. I broken over three of them in my Reflex with non DYE barrels. None of my DYE barrels have ever broken a eye pipe. Seems that other barrels have a slightly longer reach thus easier to break the pipes.

Anyways, sold the Reflex and now no more broken eye pipes.

Well, I just got boned. I ordered one off eBay for like 15 bucks shipped. Shipped from a United States seller. Now, I really don't care if it's a true "genuine Dye product", so long as it's of decent quality and works worth a damn. However, that's not what I received.

So I figured out what was going on. The eye pipe I received was for a DM7. This is not the same as the DM8+/Reflex. The seller had it advertised incorrectly.
