It's actually A Separate Peace, and I thought it was quite good.

Great Expectations. I hated that book. We had to read it and watch the movie.

How can you guys not like A Brave New World?

I was certainly not a fan of Pride and Prejudice or Tess of d'Urbervilles.

I freaking hated The Da Vinci Code. I don't read much pop lit because I'm an English major and read too much other stuff already, but I read that book after hearing about it forever, thinking it would at least be engaging. Instead, it's so nauseatingly predictable that you can guess who the secret person carrying Jesus' blood is just about 2 pages after the idea is introduced.

But no one is arguing that The Da Vinci Code is great literature. In terms of what is supposedly classic and still sucks, Lord of the Flies takes the title.

I totally agree with you. I just read the Da Vinci Code, and while I did like it alot, everything was so predictable. Also, even though the book manages to engage the reader with suspense, the way he created suspense is almost just cheesy. I pretty much roll my eyes after each chapter. I've been trying to read Angels and Demons before the movie comes out, but I've pretty much given up, too ****ing cheesy.

And I thoroughly enjoyed Brave New World, actually.

Worst books I've ever read are

To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, Scarlet Letter, A Separate Peace and Twilight.

I didn't even finish Twilight, just got to a point where I didn't want to read it anymore.

I think some of us hated high school English not so much because of the story, but because of the work associated with the reading. If we were to go at our own pace and read it, I think some of us would change our opinions about some pieces of literature.

Actually, that kinda makes me want to go back and read The Poisonwood Bible now.

Yeah, it depends on the person as well, I suppose. I liked the story of Lord of the Flies, but I did not at all enjoy the author's writing style. But I loved The Hobbit during freshman year. For me it was the text itself. Senior year we read like 4 books, and I liked a couple of them but some were pretty slow reads.

I couldn't stand reading in class, I would always just read the book the first week on my own. Made it much more enjoyable.
