Anyone that still owns a equalink cable, could you please post or pm me the schematics so i can build one. Not that hard to figure out if you have a DMM.

The cable has a board built into it so it's not as easy and hooking up the wires between two connectors.

You get used to it
I just have to print out a cheat sheet so I don't have to look at the PC to know what lights go with what setting.

Anyone know what that board actually does? I'm guessing it's just a serial passthrough and the board does no actual signal processing of its own to be concerned about. I haven't seen it myself so I don't know.

Dudes, if this is the cable:

There is no processing. It's a serial cable. Nothing special.

Where do you see the board built into it?

If it truly is just a serial cable, i just need it pinned out. Good looking out Nemo

It is not just a serial cable. He is correct, there is a board built into it. If you take the housing off the serial end, here is what's inside:

There is a thread on here somwhere about building these. Someone was able to do it. There used to be a schematic floating around, but all of the links to it are dead.

Someday when I have time, I'll sit down with my cable and a multimeter and figure out the schematic again. I'll also try and dig up the thread and post a link to it when I have time.

I would need some zoomed in shots, but that just looks like voltage line conversion. No processing. Radio Shack would have equivalent parts. Very easy to make that.

Also, the program simply looks for the COM port of the computer. That tells me it's using standard RS232 communication. If the board were I/Oing any other type of signal, that wouldn't make sense.

Actually, it's not using RS232 communication. It's using RRS485, thus the need for the board to adapt from RS485 to RS232.

The board is simple in design and would be easy to replicate as you suggest. Like I said, I just haven't had time to get out the multimeter and figure out what the components are.

The biggest problem is the molex connector on the OTHER end of the cable. The tool to put everything together is very expensive. Some have had luck without the tool however. I've never tried it and can't say.

My camera doesn't take any better close up shot than what I provided. It's an inexpensive point and shoot type of camera, otherwise I would provide better pictures.

Found the thread. About the last six posts on the last two pages are the useful stuff.

Molex components for the connection to the board are available here:

Your pretty much out of luck with buying a NEW Equalink cable or NEW System X anything. Same thing I was told was that you may find one on B/S/T. I was looking for one for more of a convenience thing seeing as the NME doesnt have a display and mine was an LE that came with the updates. TJS0439 flashes boards I do believe, you may have to ask him or he knows someone that does.
