Why not Vegas? Flight to that place are just unreal in some parts of the US. Vegas would be dirt cheap for everyone.

Vegas

We look at many details when making the selection for the event. We have looked at Vegas. Cheap flights aren't the case - I have flown this year from Michigan to San Fransico, Las Vagas, Orlando and DC. Vegas was the most expensive. Cheap flights to Vegas are our there if you are traveling on certain dates. The event has a large drive in attendance - DC area is within driving distance for over 60% of the US. Flights from Europe are long and expensive to Vegas. For our type of event - large amount of space requirement limits selection of available facilities. Extravaganza uses a large amount of space with a relative small attendance and virtualy no food & beverage. Not a great bargining tool. We have talked to facilities in Vegas and either they are not interested or they are very up front that the cost will be high and most likely event would be held in an older facility off the strip.

People have to decide - are they traveling to Extravaganza for the betterment of their business or for a vacation. Our aim is the first.

Have you guys looked into Chicago? IMTS is held there every other year, so McCormick Place has ample room, cheaper international flights, and is centrally located.

McCormick is really expensive, but there are places just outside of the city that would be way less money, just like Chicago PSP in Joliet. I know Tinley Park has great facilities, then again maybe I want it in Chicago because I am from there.

DC is a great choice cant wait to be there again this year.

So it really just a convention for field owners? What is the whole point of decimating the target audience like that? I'm sure that the general paintball community would love to see the new technology coming out soon.

They probably would, but an event like this costs a lot of money to put on so having an expo for players probably wouldn't work. How many players are willing to fly across the country and spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to look at new upcoming paintball stuff?

Traditionally vendors have released many of their new offerings at World Cup, so in a way, something similar is happening for the end users.

Obviously the location has already been booked so I don't think the time needs to be wasted trying to argue a new location for this year... But I think Nashville may be a place to look into if that hasn't been done already. Considering Tennessee is within a day's drive of most of the states. I'm fine with it staying in DC though.

Man I hated last years venue, so small and everything was overpriced in the hotel itself. I was hoping they would have brought it back to Ga or I heard thru the grapevine they were going to combine it with World Cup in the near future. It seems kind of silly to release gear in the fall right before Christmas, then again, right after Christmas in Feb.

Your grapevine isn't reliable! No discussions have been made regarding combining Extravagnza with World Cup. The last couple of years have seen more new products kicked off at Extravaganza than at World Cup. It really doesn't have as much to do which event as to when the manufacturer has the product available for release.

The 2014 venue was smaller than 2013 but had more exhibitors than any previous Extravaganza. We actually received many complements on the smaller venue from both attendees and exhibitors.

2014 hotel cost were higher than in Atlanta but keep in mind Atlanta was held 4 years ago when industry tradeshows and the economy were at at a decline.

They don't go to Vegas because they don't realize that even though cost would be higher attendance would double or triple.

That's some sketchy hippie math at best.

It's been a consideration for years. However, all their research has indicated the opposite. Attendance would drop. Care to share your data?

They're catering to the entire East Coast right now which doesn't get nearly as much love as the West Coast...and has steadily been on the rise. Without knowing any details behind their business I'd say that's a pretty lofty statement to make

Don't need to do the math, just look at the number of conventions in DC compared to Vegas. The largest conventions are held in Vegas and Orlando, why because people want to have something to do other than just the convention. You can visit the booths in a day, it would be nice to do something else after spending time and money to get there.

Same argument every year. It will always be where they want it to be at, so you might as well save your breath. Yes, you could look at all the booths in a day but you wouldn't learn very much. Extravaganza is for the purpose of seeing your vendors and product in one place, and taking classes that will benefit your field or store. If you take classes you will need at least 2 if not all 3 days to see and learn every thing. I was one of the many arguing last year about the location. I, however took the time to go and learned more then I thought I would. I will hopefully be going again in 2015. So, YES It is worth the time and money. The vendors have many show deals, and it is a great place to beef up your inventory. All tho I would say if the vendors are giving away vouchers again, they put the terms directly on the voucher. Found it to be deceiving to offer incentive and follow it up with, Oh you need to buy X amount of product to get the voucher value. That is about my only gripe about the whole trip.

Another interesting fact: The year we had a West Coast and a East Coast event = more stores and fields from the West Coast attended the East Coast event than the West Coast event. We thought a destination end location would up the attendance = event was held within walking distance of Disney an we wasn't able to identify anyone that used the event as a vacation.

Most of the attendees are tight on time and come into town for the event and leave immediately to get back to store or field for the weekend business. It would be a shame to loose the time spent in the evening sharing discussions, thoughts and interaction with manufacturers and other business owners.

Another example would be when World Cup moved from Disney to Polk County. Everyone said it would kill the event. Go into Orlando at night (Old Town) and you see very few from paintball. Event still going strong.

If we really felt that moving to Vegas would double/triple attendance you could be sure a move would be made. It really comes to we have proven numbers and see a growth each year - if a move to another part of the Country was not a success or equal previous year it could lead to the demise of the event and that would not be a very positive for the industry.

It really comes down to if you're attending Extravaganza for entertainment or for the betterment of your business.
