Tadao Yakuza

I have a Yakuza board in my Droid but the lcd screen is barely visible outside. I have to cover the grip just to see what it is displaying. At first I thought it was the brightness level but its set to 5 (the highest). I don't understand why it would suddenly be very dim. I tried a fresh duracell battery but that didn't effect the brightness. Any suggestions, or does/did anyone else have this problem?

I have heard a couple of other people stating that their Yakuza board screens have dimmed. Your best bet is going to be to contact Will at Tadao and ask if there is a solution to this.

Same here

I have the exact same problem. I just upgraded to a Yakuza board in my Karni and am really not able to see the screen at all unless I'm in a dark room. I just emailed Tadao and am waiting on a response.

Funnily enough, after reading these threads, I checked my Ego7 and Ego8, neither of which have been used for a while, and both had very pale screens - almost illegible in one case.

I contacted Will, and he informed me that he is sourcing a new type of screen which should be available soon. The new screen will require a change of firmware.

Hmmm... I wonder if he will fix the SR board that he helped design, as it has the same problem.

I'm certain I have not had paint inside the frames of my Egos since installing the Tadao boards - basically, I have newer markers now, and so my Ego7 and 8 have seen little use recently - but yes, I got the impression that we would have to buy replacement screens rather than it being a warranty replacement.

I believe that the new Ego OLEDs are now in stock - I can't comment on UL frame boards.

Didn't realize this was such a wide-spread problem.
My Mikko UL board has the same issue.
Seems like the failure rate on these displays is insane.
I would expect more from a company than, "sorry, the OLED manufacturer stopped making these and there's nothing that can be done about it."

Same issue. Except my gun never touched the field with the OLED I installed in it. It went dim the night before I touched the field. Just replaced it with another one. Tadao told me I need a new OLED but nobody makes them anymore so I'd have to replace the entire board. Not very good customer service for what they are charging when compared to virtue...

I have been a long time Tadao fan, and have had great customer service when emailing and pming Will on here. I have had their boards in well over 10 of my guns.

- I had the OLED screen on my cocker go bad recently. Saw very gentle use and no paint water or anything get into the board.

- Powered up my Droid on friday to get it ready for a big game next month only to find that the screen had gone bad. This gun is babied, and only gets used a few times a year. Nothing has ever gotten on the board or screen.

Both of these boards are being sent to Tadao to get a new screen and updated as their non-USB. I think the problem with the screens failing is combination of poor manufacturing from the company that the origional screens came from, and vibration/movement. The "lifetime" Warranty that Tadao has does not cover the OLED screens because, IF a screen fails it will be due to damage of some sort. The warranty only cover manufacturing defects, not damage. While Tadao didn't manufacturer the OLED screens, they did put them on their boards. IMO, Tadao shoud be taking responsibilty for it.

I really hope the new companies screens are better built and last longer, or this will be the last OLED boards that I will buy from Tadao.

Lucky you. Will offered me no assistance at all. It seems the failure rate on these is laughable.

Ouch. At least yours are still in production. Apparently whoever manufactured screens for the UL board stopped.

I'm having the same damn problem for my Mikko UL USB OLED board. And I know for a fact paint, or "something else" never got on it for the board to start dimming. It was working perfectly fine when I replaced it with the stock board when I sold the gun it was installed on. I put the Tadao board back in the anti-static bag, put it in its case, and stored it in my cabinet. 4 months later, the screen just goes dim. What a bunch of BS. And Tadao's website is all funky. Somewhat works, then get an error page no matter where I click.

I always favored Tadao boards over any of the other aftermarket boards manufacturers. But if Tadao is basically telling us we're SOL, I'm definitely staying away.

Tadao should man up & take responsibility, like how 7th Element has, and work the shoddy issues with the screens. For the price of their boards, there is no excuse for them not to work this problem out with the consumers.
