Some old pics of my stand:
And, my old setup on it:
The tank rest pieces are now capped and have foam around them as well as the barrel rest. Also, the barrel rest has been lowered to prevent tipping.

So basically, I copied some of the great designs above and built 3 stands. The first one took the longest. Once I had the lengths right, I measured the first one and built the other two. My only regret is that I didn't build a 4th for a friend. Cost per stand is about $5.00

Here is mine. The barrel stands will fold down to make it nearly flat.

Man, I build some stands, and then comes along another design that I want to make!
This one would make a great team stand for a big game. I have to make one!
Question, you mentioned that you can take it apart. Do you mean that you haven't glued it together? Can you post a picture or mention how you break it down?
Anyway, thanks for posting!

I see. Do you ever have a problem with it coming apart where it's not glued?
Have any of your klutzy teammates ever put their markers into the stand and domino'd the markers next to it?

Before I built mine, I tried drawing up plans, but gave up. I just went to Home Depot, bought what I thought I would need and just started playing around. Once I had a decent stand, I built two more for my kids.
Of course then JokersWild53 posted pics of his stand, so now I HAVE to build one of those.
If your not really handy, try one of the simpler designs.
PVC piping is very cheap and easy to work with.
By the way, in case you can't tell, I used 3/4 inch pipe.

coming apart? no not really and even if it does, its no big deal because its made to break down into 3 gun sections, so if the base does come apart...it still stands with no problem
domino'd not usually on this either, however the tank holder T joints don't grip bare steel tanks very well and they will tend to slip and slide one way or another but it doesn't knock guns down...
all in all its very sturdy and without cutting the barrel holders people are able to put tention on their barrels to stabilize the gun even more (why I didn't cut the barrel holding T joints)

It depends on the design. If you want a smaller one that can fold you don't use glue. If you want a bigger fixed in place design you should definitely use glue. It makes the stand much stronger. A can of PVC cement is only a few bucks. Don't use too much cause it's melts PVC and makes it swell up. Lol on my first stand I pored some cement into an elbow thinking more = better instead of brushing it on with the brush that comes under the lid and found that the next morning it had doubled it's size and became as soft and spongy as foam.
