Several years ago, I got invited to an impromptu weekend game, and needed a marker. I had several ready to go (Freestyle, E-Blade Fastback, etc.) but they were a bit much for a group of younger players mostly equipped with Tippmanns and various Spyder clones.
So I dug through my parts boxes and bins of spares and put together a pretty decent mechanical 'Cocker:
Lots of nice vintage parts, like the old 3K Max Flow, an ancient Bob Long "Longshot" barrel (14" non-stepped bore) an old Rock, an early CCM 3-way, a Tornado, etc. Worked fine, and afterwards, I hung it up on the wall where it stayed virtually ever since.
Last weekend a local group put together the first real play day of the year- finally- so I dusted off that same marker (unchanged, unaltered and unserviced) dumped some CO2 into the tank (the old Maxes could take it, SP recommended it for the old "shoebox" Shockers) since my HP compressor had died a couple of years ago, and went to play.
Worked great! Never had to adjust the velocity (275 to 285 all day long, even using old paint) never had to tweak any settings or timing, didn't even swap out the old 9V in the ancient VL2000. (Not a Revolution- a
VL2000!)
Fully half the players there had no idea what it was, and since they'd never seen one and had never heard of one- and because it had all these cool hoses and whatnot all over the place- they thought it was some new and exotic custom gun.
