Referee

Did anyone else notice all of the bad calls?

I don't mean to offend anyone, but from the time i got there (8AM on sunday), to the time I left (final game on sunday), a particular ref seemed to be making consistently bad calls.

J-Rab getting pulled with no hit.

Bea Youngs getting a penalty after asking for a paint check, and being declared clean.

Thomas Taylor getting pulled after getting turned on, about a second after running the guy down. (I believe in the final match against Damage)

Kat Secor getting pulled with no hit.

Rich Telford getting pulled for hopper rub. (It may not have been Rich, but one of the back players from XSV was pulled with rub off of the back center temple with rub from his OWN paint)

Dynasty getting a MAJOR for playing on without shooting. (Slid into the snake, after being hit, getting to the carwash, checking himself, and then putting his hand on his head. As his hand was going up, the ref pulled a RED)

worst reffing I ever saw on field two on Fri 7 Sat

Reffing was the worst I ever saw - period. I will give 3 true examples. a guy ran down our snake but he had 3 hits on him before he even crossed the 50. he then proceeded to shoot our s1 player then our car wash player as he ran down the line. our player turned around as he passed our car wash and pointed to him and said look he has 3 hits on his side. ref threw a red flag and pulled a total of 4 people on US for turning??. that is the worst example by far. The other two - twice one of our players asked for a paint check - they where clearly not shooting and no obvious hits - on both the ref came over check said your out and threw a flag and pulled another player both times. what the FUC&&&K??? with all the changes for the worst NPPL and the crappy paint vendors you have and stupid chips in our guns and then the crappy reffing - - you guys are killing this league.

I saw a few calls from one of the refs on center court that could have been better checked to make sure a hit was actually there instead of just calling the players out. As for the penalties, they could have gotten them for talking as well. I know they were cracking down on the talking after being shot. In all though, the reffing on all 3 fields was very on par from what I experienced with only a couple issues that I noticed.

Edit: ^^^ Guess I missed the field 2 action.

yea I heard field 3 had good reffing actually most of the days. field 2 was amature hour though. I'm serious - we pay good money on fees, then more money for hotel, paint, air travel etc - to have idiots for refs? NPPL you need to clean up your act. and before ya say reffing is hard - hey I'm a certiifed PSP ref - and I know how to do a good job reffing.

Dam dude that sucks. We only had one issue with a call made on our snake corner guy for the entire event and event then I saw the mark that the ref would consider in question and I would have called it also. It was on the pack though in between 2 pods so he was fair and just pulled our guy even though he had rolled a lane while the ref was checking him and didn't give a penalty.

I know had bad reffing can make or break an event for teams. My old xball team went to play our first regional event a couple years ago and, due to reffing issues, decided that they didn't want to play the league anymore event though everything else went well.

We had two bad calls to cost us first place. However, I feel the refs were not being lazy, Working hard, and trying to ref a fair game. Bad calls will be made. Good calls to. Part of the game. It's a thankless jobs and good refs are hard to find. Only way to keep them is to encourage them to return.

Plus, you might not have seen what they did.

It seems like after every event this thread pops up. the reffing isn't perfect, though sometimes it for sure downright bad. I blame every one having a different perspective on the play. the players involved have their version, the ref has theirs, and the spectators all see something else too. Paintball is a difficult sport to ref, so many things happen in a fraction of a second.

This thread pops up every event....i wont go into details but please to ANYONE who refs....if your going to be a super ref and get penelty happy at some point in the tourny, please do it RIGHT AWAY so teams know they cant get away with crap. When you COMPLETELY change the way you ref come sunday, and get flag happy, thats when it gets very irritating

The only way the sport is going to grow is for people to stop cheating, so refs have to be strict.

I was actually very pleased with the reffing, I thought the guys did a great job. There was only 1 ref I saw who was making calls that were questionable but over all....very pleased.

This. We played on field 3, and I thought reffing was really good fri & sat. On Sunday there were penalties left and right, and not just on my team. Games with the final 4 were rushed like crazy too.

Aside from that I thought the refs did a great job of keeping things going nice and smooth. We had a great first tournament. We had some bad calls but it is what it is. See everyone in Chicago!

I feel the exact same way, they let the games happen(fri/sat) instead of controlling them with their red/yellow flags.(sun)

I played Thursday only on field 3 and don't have any complaints. I got pulled for high fiving my teammate. Dumb rule but I guess it is a rule? Whatever.

I'm not complaining about it, and now I know it, but it is a dumb rule and one ref was only looking for that and he was going psycho pulling people for it.
