Hey guys whats up, I'm new around here so excuse me if this questions been posed before. I'd just like to know what you all think regarding the historical accuracy of the Bible? Namely the New Testament, which has been proven quite accurate by other historical text even from authors of conflicting interests. I do not mean this to be a question of faith, only a question of how you feel about the historical and archeological evidence for the Bible.

I would say it is evidence like any other source. With it's own strengths and weaknesses.

I agree, it won't sway my case either way because the new testiment in and of itself isn't enough to dislodge all of the other issues and falicies i find with religion.
Could you point me in the direction of some "atheist information". I'd like to know more about both sides of the argument, seeing as how I was an atheist, now a Christian, but realized I never really looked at what atheists had to say, just kinda didn't want to accept a God.

How do you feel about Easter, ie. the crucifiction, burial, and ressurection? There are medical references assuring his death, and then the fact that women found the empty tomb would contradict how the authors would have written it had it been legend. Also the fact that the formation of the Creed of Christianity dates at earliest 2 years after his death and at latest 20 years is interesting.
In short I'd say read Lee Strobels books, if for no other reason do it in the spirit of the quest for knowledge. Likewise, I'd like to check out some sources refuting all this, so any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Never understood this argument. There are literally countless fictional works that are historically accurate, but telling a fictitious tale. I would consider the Bible to be one of these. Saying a book holds accurate historical records of events is really saying nothing at all.

Read the works of the leading atheist figures. Take in objective evidence and make decisions for yourself.
Christopher Hitchens
Sam Harris
Daniel Dennet
Richard Dawkins

My point is that the people and places and events can be cross referenced against other historical documents. But again as stated above, I'd like to look at the authors you've given me to see how they all explain it.

His attitude may be somewhat sour, but to label the guy an idiot is extremely idiotic of yourself. He's an extremely intellectual person with many fantastic insights to thwart theocratic belief.

I feel it's nice in theory but complete crap. As treghc had said many historical things have been faked i doubt this entire story of death, and resurrection. Yes the death occured, the ressurection did not, if jesus was as prominent as he was it wouldn't shock me if grave robbers came and took the body for whatever purpose in all honesty.
There's no actual evidence to suggest that Jesus was an actual person the first place, let alone stories of his resurrection and the resurrection of entire towns, or that healed the sick, or... anything, really. Nobody wrote anything about the guy when he was supposedly alive, performing all of these miracles. It wasn't until 40 years after his death that the first gospel was written.

No offense but that is just blatantly wrong. It is almost unanimous among scholars that a rabbi named Jesus lived, preached, and was hung by a cross. To argue otherwise is to argue that we never went to the moon and that aliens caused 9/11.
May I ask you what research you have done on the topic? Do you have a major in the field or are you relying on google and wikipedia?
