Exclamation Something we can do that will really help AKA

I posted this on another thread. Once you have written your congresspersons, post here to let people know. Copy your text from your messages if you don't mind. AKA fans are all over the country, let's make a difference.

http://www.house.gov/
http://www.senate.gov/

Look up your congressman and senators on these sites and send them emails. It is very easy. Be sure to stress the anti-competitive nature of the Smart Parts lawsuits and that you think an FTC investigation is in order.

I have done this type of thing in the past. It works. If nothing else you get personal letters in return

Let's show SP that the AKA family is the smartest, best informed in the Paintball community and we won't take this without a fight. Politicians really will help if they get enough email, letters or phone calls. And quite frankly patents don't mean squat if congress (or a subset) decide to do something about it.

We need to demand an investigation. With Enron, Worldcom, etc regulators are ITCHING for a fight!

Im sorry and no offence intended but you are telling me that if i write my congressmen about a company in another state, that they will even read it? im sorry but trying to draw a comparison between world com and smart parts is laughable. Congressmen have better things to do such as revice under the table money from the tobaco industry. I wasnt makin fun of ya so dont think that. I was just saying while its a neat idea. That prolly wouldnt do much...

Didn't you guys take Civics in school???

Yes it makes a difference. What can they do about it? Quite a bit actually. I am 40 and I communicate with my representative periodically. I have received help in the past. The company doesn't have to be in their state if their constituents are being effected.

If you don't even want to TRY by doing something as simple as sending an EMAIL, then fine. Just don't complain about SP here.

THis is what I sent to Joel Hefley.

Hello sir. I'd like to bring a siuation to your attention. There is a growing industry surrounding the sport known as paintball. There are a number of businesses in the Colorado Springs area dedicated to providing paintball venues.

There is a company known as "Smart Parts" www.smartparts.com that has recently modified patents. So much so that they are sueing, and driving out of business, many smaller manufacturers. The part that is particularly disgusting is that they didn't even invent the technology they were awarded patents on. It is like Apple complaining about Microsoft stealing the windowing environment idea when Apple copied Xerox to begin with.

I believe this is very shady to say the least. I'd appreciate it if one of your staff could look into this for a possible FTC investigation. The anti-competitive nature of the actions taken by Smart Parts is having a detrimental effect on the entire industry of paintball. Here are some people you may want to talk to.

Tom Kaye, Air Gun Designs
Glenn Palmer, Palmer Pursuit
Aaron Alexander, AKA

Another source of information is on a forum that is dedicated to the sport. It is located at http://www.pbnation.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=149

Thank you very much for your attention to this matter.

go to

http://www.house.gov and put in your zip code. They tell you who it is
http://www.senate.gov put in your state, they tell you who the two senators are.

They don't expect anyone to know.

Statistics in the gov't offices rate each email as equivalent to 200 people complaining
personal calls roughly the same
hand written and mailed letters are equivalent to 1,000 people complaining.

THey take this stuff seriously ESPECIALLY IN AN ELECTION YEAR!

If nothing comes of it, you've wasted 10 minutes venting to politicians. On the other hand, if SP gets kicked...

Hey guys, try to customize it a little. Feel free to add more information. There are people here that know a lot more detail about the situation. Post any additional info so people can use it in future correspondance.

Hello sir. I'd like to bring a situation to your attention. There is a growing industry surrounding the sport known as paintball. According to American Sports Data Inc there were approximately 8,700,000 people that played paintball in 2002. With a 29.6% increase in participants between 1998 and 2001 the sport is growing very quickly. The natural progression of paintball equipment is in jeopardy.

There is a company known as "Smart Parts" www.smartparts.com that has recently modified patents so much so that they are suing, and driving out of business, many smaller manufacturers. The part that is particularly disgusting is that they didn't even invent the technology they were awarded patents on. The patents are also so general that they control the entire high performance market on paintball markers.

I believe this is very shady to say the least. I'd appreciate it if one of your staff could look into this for a possible FTC investigation. The anti-competitive nature of the actions taken by Smart Parts is having a detrimental effect on the entire industry of paintball. Here are some people you may want to talk to.

I have found a website that I hope will help you in your efforts to help us the people of this great country to be free from corporate tyranny. http://www.icedillusions.com/Anti-SP.html
