I recently started getting back into paintball again. However, I want to play more often than the people I usually go with do. Is it common for people to go by themselves to open play? I don't think I've seen many people arrive at fields solo, or it just could be that I've never really noticed. Has anyone had any problems going to open play sessions by themselves? Do you guys do it?
I suppose it's not exactly common, but I see it occassionally. I've never had any problems with going alone, however, I used to work at the field I play at. I have seen people come alone many times, and they are normally welcomed with open arms.

Once my sammich maker got pissed and broke me down physically and pointed out all of my flaws. I came back with "Yeah? Well you have a saggy *****."
She flipped her **** and didn't talk to me for a week."
It's as normal as breathing down where I live. Half of the time people don't mind playing with other people.
Just remember to ask nicely and not be a jerk even if they are.

I've gone alone, it's not been an issue at the fields I've gone to. It really depends on how good you are in play as well as in character. If you act like a jerk, screaming/ranting/raving, like Ramboing up, shoot your teammates "accidentally" a lot... Well, no one's going to want to play on your team.
The main danger is sometimes the field's are reserved for private parties, they don't usually want walkons for their private fun. Really depends on the fields you go to whether or not this is an issue though (might need to call first). There's usually enough fields for the other people too, but I can only talk in general. The last time I went, a couple fields were reserved for a group of 100 doing speedball (all the speedball fields really). But there were plenty of fields available for the rest of us doing recball (which is what my group was going for). Would have sucked if we wanted to do speedball there.
ha...
im in the same spot as you...
but no its not weird or anything dont know where youre from but mostly all players here in socal are super chill and welcoming from my experience...

i never play alone because my dad plays n we always go together but i do see it, and people where we go to play are nice and easy to start convos with so its not bad
i go solo every sunday and just play with the walk ons.. normal operation as far as im concerned. if my buddies come with me its cool but i play every weekend so solo comes along with that, go for it, everybodies cool, if not at first they will be when u represent out on the field. u will make some freinds.,
When I played as a pre teen and when I play now I have always had to go alone. No one I ever knew liked (or could afford back then) playing paintball. I go every Saturday by myself. After about 4 or 5 months of being there every single weekend I was finally asked to be a ref and I made friends with the other refs.
It's more a personality thing than looking strange. I can go out to eat, see movies, whatever by myself without feeling strange for it.
As a field owner, I can tell you there are lots of people that come alone to join open play. As a matter of fact, we encourage it. It wasn't common place in our area before we opened our field, but I believe making paintball available to anyone without having to organize a number of friends to come out, has increased play in our area considerably.
I used to be strongly against going by myself. A few weeks ago the group I was with just were not into it. They wanted sit there and do nothing. So I broke off and played most of the day alone. It wasn't that bad. I played harder than usual because I wasn't constantly checking on what my buddies were doing. Once you meet the regulars there's always someone to run with..
i am 14 and i used to play with people my own age. After awhile i was the only one left going every week and now i play every week with my friends that i MET there in there 20 but just meat people and have fun i some times go bye myself and if you go help the walk ons thats what i do.
