vw jetta..where is the starter located? anyone know. some girl needs me to go jump her car and its dark out so me finding it is gonna be nearly impossible without knowing where it is or the general location. she said it doesnt make a noise at all so if i go down and see its the starter and not the battery i wanna know where it is so maybe i can hit it a few times with a hammer or something...help if you can

Jetta. What Year and Motor? Honestly...it's kind of hard to miss a starter on a FWD chassis because it has to protrude into the Transmission somewhere so following the perimeter of the transmission housing and the adjacent area of the Engine block should locate it for you.
Also, so you are aware, there are tons of starters you will ruin by striking them with a hammer. This isn't the 60s anymore. There still are a lot you can try to free up by lightly striking with a hammer, but I would be surprised if any modern volkswagon would be one of them.
Might want to look into that before you destroy a starter on what otherwise could be something simple to fix.

Getting to it may be the bigger issue then finding it on a VW.
it's on the upper front of the transmission, towards the radiator. typically requires removal of battery/battery tray and some other junk, or about 2 hours of labor at most places to R&R one.
