Curious about my tank

I got a Java tank (made by carleton) 68/30 and its 5 months out of hydro. How can I tell if it will pass or fail? obvious ways?

You cannot tell if it will fail the pressure test until it has been done. You can tell if it will fail the visual inspection if it has chips or cracks that go into the fibers.

It is an expansion test. To see if it returns back to the size it is supposed to after being pressurized to the "test pressure". There is a measurement that it cannot exceed. Sartek can explain it in more detail. Most CF paintball tanks do not fail this test, they normally fail the visual test if they are going to fail at all.

An obvious way would be if fibers were exposed through the lacquer or possibly heavy damage to the lacquer coating without exposing the fibers.
The pressure test is basically they remove the regulator and place the cylinder into a tank of water. They then supply air into the tank and check the expansion and displacement; there is a number on your tank that shows the limit of that I believe. It's marked something like 12.5 cc, the number itself is different on different sizes and brands.
So they apply a large amount of pressure to the tank, I've heard anywhere from 6000-8000 psi but never really confirmed an official number, check the expansion, displacement, and contraction and then go from there. If it passes it's get recertified and shipped back to you with a sticker on it if not... well then you get a tank sent back full of drilled holes and a tank reg. Or just a tank reg in some cases.

Tank is pressurized to 5/3 working pressure (so 5000psi for a 3000psi tank, 7500psi for a 4500psi tank), the allowable expansion amount is called REE (rejection elastic expansion).
