Really feeling the need for a car I can have fun with
Well, I want to get something that's going to be reliable (kind of kills the idea of a project car) but has quite an endless amount of aftermarket goodies for it.
I'm REALLY interested in a 2004 Audi 1.8T A4 sedan..
Anyone on here drive one? I'm seeing plenty of them around here for around 9-11k depending on mileage and being a standard 6 speed.
I know this car is never anything that will get me over 250 or so horsepower, but the car's lines give it a timeless look and I'd really like to have something with all wheel drive.
any thoughts?
Unfortunately today I realized I don't have 40k right now to spend on a vehicle

lots of A4's here, and the 1.8 will support well over 250 hp.

B6 A4's like the one you describe are great. I'm in the market for one as well. They, like any car with a few years and some decent mileage, may run into some issues, but that is true with any car. Audi's are a bit more expensive to get worked on, I'll only be taking mine to a dealer.

I got a skyline, but I only have one pic since it took so long to get here. JK, I sold it. But I had it. Trust me. Now I have an even more JDM 300ZX. It cost $10,000, no, $30,000. /MadPSI My Feedback

I've got a b5 passat which, of course, is pretty much an a4. its at like 180k km's. Reliability wise its had some wonky electrical problems, and parts on the front suspension have needed replacement, but the drivetrain has so far been bulletproof. Even still on the original turbo somehow.
$11k isn't the budget.. I'm going to be purchasing it with cash, and will have a good amount left over for some fun.. I figured the A4 is a good base.
How much, and what are your goals? You can have 300lb/ft of torque and 210awhp for under 3k, but any more than that you'll be breaking into the engine and spending ~$8k... of course, at that point, you can have a mid-low 12 second car on street tires and pump gas if you can drive.

The passat is an A4 with more electrical problems, lol. The front suspension sucks..... the drivetrains are pretty much the stoutest stock drivetrain of any awd sedan before the strong STI trannies. With just a clutch they can handle ~350awhp on a road course, or 400+awhp on a strip with no issues really.
I've got a B7 A4 2.0T and I love it. Haven't had a problem with it at all and I love driving it.
I have put 9,000 miles on it in the past 4 months.
Oh, and every time I go up to the dealership and my salesman sees me, he gives me a free carwash and some other thing to go with my car. Last week he gave me a 3rd Keyfob, a new valet key, a new emergency key, and another key code. The time before that he gave me a black coffee mug that said "A4" on the side.
I think, "holy ****, he still recognizes me."
and it will run wonderfully for a long time, assuming you don't deny too many recommendations.

he wants it to drive like an A4 should, and the passat's got less electrical problems. the front suspension is the best handling suspension you'll find on any factory stock DD, at the sacrifice of bushing wear. but there is virtually zero camber roll in cornering.
