Infracted for insulting another member? What a laughable reason to issue punishment. Surely if the PBN staff was to start handing out infractions for such a thing there would be NO ONE left on PBN.
I have read posts from your moderators which were more "hurtful" than anything I said. Any one who would have been seriously offended by that post needs to simply get off the internet, end of story. This is not the place to be excessively sensitive given that its sole purpose is for sharing opinions, facts and ideas with some entertainment as a side dish. The day it is unanimously decided that sharing your opinion(s) (as I very clearly did) on the internet is wrong will be the day I blow my brains across the wall because they are no longer of any use to any one.
Here's what it comes down to:
Those in positions of authority/power need to seriously consider if what they are punishing is actually a serious offense or if the idea of punishment is just laughable.
Said individuals need to remove their emotions from the equation and act solely on fact and common sense.
Now before any of you reply to this post, go read the entire thread in question.
Keep in mind I do not want the infraction removed. I will wear it with pride as a reminder of what a joke the system is.
Now what I DO want is to hear from the rest of the staff:
Do you really believe this punishment was completely justified? (A simple yes or no will suffice.)

The closest thing to support your claim is rule #8 which states:
"No trolling. Do not make posts that are inflammatory, or designed to get people riled up. Substance is the key to not being labeled a troll. If you disagree with someone or something, simply say why."
My post was merely a retaliation to a post which violates this very rule. More specifically this portion of it:
"Do not make posts that are inflammatory, or designed to get people riled up."
Requesting some one be silent when they are merely voicing their opinion is indeed inflammatory.
In my response to said post, I used an analogy to make a point which would fall under the suggestion of the aforementioned rule.
"If you disagree with someone or something, simply say why."
Now I will admit that I may have skipped the "simply" portion because it seems the analogy was far too subtle hence the reason no one has quite caught on yet.
Quite petty if you look at it in context from a realistic standpoint.
Pulling it out of context as you have can make it questionable in terms of rule violation. Applying the same concept to any other statement can have the exact same effect if the desire is there.
Allowing something to be taken out of context leaves interpretation COMPLETELY to the receiving individual. Something about that just doesn't seem right now does it? Leaves quite a bit of (too much) room to twist and manipulate anothers words.
Reading the whole thread and your post, I think the infraction was justified and should remain.

Thank you for your opinion, it has been noted, that's all I'm asking for in this thread. I would also like to note (for a second time) that I do not want the infraction removed, I made that quite clear.
As for the second post you mentioned, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It does not break any rule and is actually very well inside the rules. I did not attack him (although if you take certain things out of context you could dispute that, then again that would simply be a faulty self-serving interpretation of what was said) I stated facts and gave him some good advice. Take that for what you will as there is no pleasing everyone and I certainly do not intend to.
Also, the whole process of getting a point across when two parties have differing opinions is going to be nothing but argumentative. It's part of the whole exchanging ideas things I mentioned earlier. Without arguments or disagreements, any one can say ANYTHING with absolutely no repercussions. Lies and bad information would be spread everywhere choking out the truth which makes such things necessary to keep the masses accurately informed. Without disagreements, progress would cease.
It's not the fact that you dissagree, it's the way you phrase things. You can dissagree with someone without insults or calling their personal judgement into question.
If you want to say your opinion is valid, then you must agree other people's is also valid.
Since you do not want your infraction challenged unless you have a direct problem we can assist you with, I'll close this thread and thank you for time.

I understand, but as you have already said, you do not wish to challenge the infraction itself so this thread is now moot. I do not want to have this thread drag on for infinity when it serves no purpose and could cause problems.

First off, thank you for allowing me to post in this thread again.
Just a quick little update for those following this (and even the other) thread. During the course of this discussion I've been receiving PMs from other forum members who are as disgruntled as myself with the way authority is used on this site.
I think it could be very beneficial for a public thread (possibly in the suggestion box) where the average Joe user can point out a specific act of power abuse. If the situations where members felt personally victimized were met head on in an open minded, progress pursuing manner a lot of good could come from it and much disdain for PBN staff (as a whole) would be eradicated.
It's an option, I don't honestly think it will happen because there isn't much mind for progress around here in terms of staff/user interaction.
I'll be back after work to gauge your opinions and answer any questions I can.
