Old School Paintball Talk. The lucky guys at ST get to have their own discussions with /mostly/ matured members and it seems to go quite well, with meaningful topics and serious posts. So why not a section for paintball talk that only people with 1 or 2 years on the site can post in aswell? I've been finding lately that a lot of threads are being ruined by uneducated posts and discussions and its becoming hard to just talk about something maturely.
Sounds like a good idea, no doubt about that. But I would be excluded from that group Maybe you can earn your right into that thread? Like have one or two specific mod(s) who can take requests and he/she will be watched for a little to see if they qualify?

That is always true. Also you may have some people that come on and join...leave...come back and they are the same as the flamer you find in any forum. I think the way I stated before is the only true way to seperate the true men/women from the boys/girls.

OSST is proof that you are wrong.
EDIT: Mods wouldnt be willing to work for this, but its been proven that in general in this forum if people have to wait and see how things work around here they are able to have a real discussion without getting out of hand for the most part. You haven't unlocked OSST yet so you wouldn't understand.

Really?
Join date does not always mean the poster is mature.
I like the idea but I'm not sure how well it would work.
Like you can see with small talk, along with all the subforums, the addition of OSST has left regular ST a forum mostly consisting of flaming, spam, and pointless threads. If the more experienced guys left Paintball talk, I think that kind of leaves the newer players out in the cold. I know when I was starting, I read the paintball talk forum over the newbie forum, since that was more geared towards specific questions.
not at all, the addition of 100000 subforums has left ST with nothing else to do but spam. OSST is a sanctuary for the mentally stable.
from what i've seen, OSST been on a steady decline since i stopped posting in there about 2 years ago (around when the GDT was just hitting 3 digits). ST then looked like OSST does now. not trying to go off on a tangent about the good ol' days, just saying people might not be quite as mature as you're giving them credit for.

Truth. I stopped in the GDT way before triple digits.
Of coarse I'm generalizing, but it has been proven.
No, it has NOT been proven. A person's join date does not represent his/her maturity level. By saying that, you are implying that anyone that joins today is immature, despite some of the new members being more mature than the majority of PBN. I saw it's a lot more than just a generalization. Sure, a lot of the older members are more mature than newer members, but there are a lot of exceptions. And if i made an account 5 years ago, then started spamming immature crap on that, there'd be no defense on your position that join date = maturity.
Just for the record, nor does post count.
OSST isn't all about join date, it's also about one's ban history (i believe it is at least). As far as i know, to open up OSST, you need to be on this site for at least one year, and not be banned during that year. I think this works pretty well because the immature posters will often get banned, and even if they stick around this site for a few years, a lot of them will not have access to OSST because of their bans. Some will slide by, but nothing's perfect. Having mods select users would be more accurate, but i doubt the mods have the time to sort out thousands of members like that.
The usage restrictions are such a joke and should be removed completely from this site.

No, I was banned like 3 times on a previous account and was still granted access in a year. OSST is proof that putting a join date restriction in a troubled section does indeed weed out the immaturity.
