I know there's a thread about this every week. So here's the one for this week. I've never had this happen to me before, but it's happened twice this last month. Had a dream I was in a coffin, then I was awake, but couldn't open my eyes or talk. Only move my head. This lasted for maybe 30 seconds. **** sucks. Discuss.

I've had some pretty scary half-wake hallucinations (maybe it was real, who knows) coupled with sleep paralysis before.
Not a fun experience.

Sleep paralysis can happen occasionally. It occurs when the chemicals your body uses to keep you paralyzed during REM sleep (so you don't act out your dreams) fail to drain out of your system before you wake up.

Hallucinations are not normal unless you are under some kind of drug or have a psychological disorder. Or wake up during REM sleep.

Or maybe it wasn't a hallucination and there were actually 2 aliens chilling at my bedroom door.

Or you experienced a dream/hallucination after awaking during REM sleep.
Welcome to hypnopompic hallucinations, they might make it seem like you are begin abducted by aliens.

Lies. If you hallucinated due to of lack of sleep you'd most likely be near death or experience a VERY rare case. It's a common misconception that lack of sleep causes hallucinations, you can thank Hollywood for that one.

I've read somewhere that studies have shown that sensory deprivation can cause mild hallucinations.

I know a few people with legitimate imsomnia who get hallucinations from time to time. Granted they do have a pretty damn good imagination (that probably helps)
